Re: “Wednesday’s Briefing: ICE Plans Immigration Sweep in Sanctuary Cities; West Coast Sea Lion Population Rebounds

i know im a year late but i just want to say excellent comment gray liddell. it cements liberal double standards quite nicely. im sure the libs have a problem wit hpeople dumping mercury in rivers yet see nothing wrong with their own refusal to follow other federal laws with other health and safety implications.

Re: “Three Oakland Businesses on Creating a New Workplace Culture

remember, whether or not a customer gets flagged as a sexual harasser at this restaurant is largely subjective and depends on how they're perceived by the restaurant staff. a young attractive man will probably be a lot less likely to be flagged than one who is unattractive and old. also totally harmless interactions from a genuinely innocent customer could potentially still be perceived as sexual harassment by the staff, especially considering the prevalence of outrage culture and third wave feminism in society today. This means that men are more likely to be discriminated against at this supposedly all-inclusive restaurant and men who would never dream of sexually harassing anyone could still end up being wrongfully branded as creeps, humiliated and have their reputations soiled. People who are discriminated against at this restaurant as a result of this emotional and illogical policy will receive a lower quality of service and that isn't ok. I don't know why anyone would support a restaurant that actively engages in such discriminatory, emotion-driven practices that aren't rooted in reality. It's one thing to flag a customer who is clearly sexually harassing your staff in violation of existing sexual harassment laws, it's an entirely different story to trust your employee's gut feelings alone and brand anyone they don't like as a creep, whether or not they actually did anything inappropriate.

Re: “8 Pointers for Dating in 2019

This is seriously one of the worst articles I've ever read in my life; not just on this website, but in the ~30 years I've been alive in general.

This is really, really, really bad. Should be renamed "8 pointers for staying a virgin for the rest of your life"

Re: “Oakland Failed to Spend $2.2 Million on Anti-Displacement and Homeless Assistance

Re: “Oakland's Sewer Problems Still Stink

No surprise here. This will never stop happening as long as the city of Oakland can continue depending on its taxpayers to pay their fines for them. What incentive do they have to stop? If the EPA fines them again they'll just use our tax dollars to pay off the fine again. We pay the fines for them. If someone paid your traffic tickets for you would you have any incentive to follow traffic laws? Think about it. Until they have to pay out of their own pockets for these transgressions, they'll just keep doing it and leave us taxpayers with the bill

Re: “Oakland Elections: Cat Brooks Jumps in Mayor's Race

It's really a testament to the systematic dysfunction in Oakland when voters can't even get complete information on the candidates running in this race. I've spent hours googling and could barely find out anything about these candidates. So far, it's looking like Nancy Sidebotham is actually the best bet for mayor since she's the only one who seems to have genuine interest in making Oakland a better city and has a coherent strategy to achieve this. The rest of these candidates either do not seem to actually care about Oakland, or claim to care but then give no coherent strategy on how they will enact change in the city. A lot of these candidates have horrible web sites that aren't even properly set up, riddled with terrible grammar and amateur mistakes. Its amazing that someone like Nancy Sidebotham got less than 1% of the vote while corrupt people like Schaaf get 39%. Oakland's probably gonna stay screwed up for a long time. I sincerely doubt that the city's residents will suddenly develop the intelligence and awareness needed to make the right choice in time for this election, or that the city itself will provide accurate and complete information to these voters

Re: “Town Business: Who's Responsible for Illegal Dumping in Oakland?

Oakland doesn't actually care about illegal dumping. that's just propaganda. The other night there was some guy in a truck dumping a huge pile of garbage on the corner of 14th ave and E 30th street. Several OPD patrol cars drove right past him, with him dumping garbage on the street in FRONT OF THEIR EYES and they did not even stop to investigate. They simply do not care. The oakland city council and mayor are too busy getting rich at the expense of taxpayers to care. Their neighborhoods are nice and quiet and clean while the rest of us live in garbage and violent crime ravaged ghettos. They do not care. Its just a bunch of propaganda they spread online to try and make themselves out to be the victims. They're the ones who caused Oakland to turn into such a dump (both literally and figuratively speaking) in the first place and I promise you they do not care at all. They do not care at all.
