Re: “The East Bay Still Has Some Very Visible Reminders of Our History of Racism

Mr. Ferrell, if you are contesting the historical facts referenced in this 'SO erroneous' article, could you present your evidence?

Re: “Who Will Be There When You Call 911? Our Writer Plunges Into the World of For-Profit Ambulances.

Reading this article made me feel physically ill - happily, the feeling dissipated and I didn't need to call an ambulance.

It is remarkable that a 'public/private' partnership would be considered an acceptable or preferable solution for the problem: people who become ill and need transportation to a hospital. Quite simply, this should be a service provided either on a city or county level, by well paid city or county employees responsible to the taxpayers and not to their employer's bottom line. Any other solution is flushing money down the drain and selling the public - and public health - down the river.

Re: “How Serious is the Wild Fire Threat in the Oakland Hills?

This is not an issue of flats vs. hills (or shouldn't be). My residence almost burned in 1991, and I don't live in the Hills - embers blowing from the east almost took it out.

The Wildfire District 'lost' its reauthorization vote because it was 'only' able to muster 65% of the vote. The requirement for a two-thirds 'super-majority' for tax assessments is absurd, and the State Constitution should be amended to remove it.

Re: “On Garage Rock's Masked Conservatism and Regressive Politics

'Garage rock' is conservative insofar as its adherents and practitioners reject most post-70's advances in technology and changes in popular culture. It is no more inherently 'politically conservative' than any other style of music. John Lydon likes Donald Trump; Mo Tucker is a Tea Partier; Johnny Ramone was a rock-ribbed Republican, yet we would not and should not condemn punk rock or the New York experimental music scene of the late 1960s because people with 'regressive politics' were 'allowed' to participate.

Re: “Oakland Police Commanders Who Buried Sex-Crime Scandal Investigation Were Later Promoted

I'm convinced that OPD's 'Deep State' is simply waiting out Judge Henderson, who is 83 years old. His death or retirement will mark the end of the Department's wheel-spinning efforts to 'look busy', after which they will return to their normal state of being corrupt as f**k and proud of it.

Re: “Oakland A's Minority Owners Purchase Downtown SRO After Previous Landlord Evicted Low-Income Tenants

Mr. Ferrell,

I know you never met a neo-liberal talking point that you didn't like, but aren't you the teensiest bit suspicious that these developers aren't seeing dollar signs in their eyes at the expense of those who can least afford to lose housing?

Re: “Gentrification Station: Why Oakland Still Says NO to Uber

Pursuant to previous comment, this from a news story published TODAY: "Uber has reached the stage where there is seemingly no low it can reach that will surprise people"
