Re: “Totally Hot Italian

I had a great experience at hot italian. My pizza was perfectly crispy. Our salad had tart/sweet plums that offered a good contrast to the spinach and cheese. Our dessert was good (well besides the minty vanilla gelato). It is definitely the best option in E-ville.

Re: “Trouble at Club Paradiso

Hmm: not sure this is true
"It's also an interesting parable about the limits of responsibility and the appropriate course of action in a neighborhood and a city that continue to be beset by nightclub violence."

There has been a spate of nightclub incidents all over the Bay in recent months, including SF and San Jose.

The real questions is why are there so many incidents everywhere, and how can we identify the likely perpetrators before they enter the club.

Re: “Old Oakland Update: Baia Is Out, PieTisserie Is In

I wonder what's wrong with some of these places. Tamarindo has been doing well for years. Same with PAcific Coast and the Trappist. What's the problem with the other places?

Levende East looks like it is out according to Eater SF: http://sf.eater.com/archives/2011/07/07/du…

That space was Sweet Thyme Catering and something else. Messob is open a few doors down.

Re: “A New Barbecue Regionalism

This is not the BBQ I grew with. My pulled pork is eastern Carolina style. A whole roasted pig, hand shredded with a vinegar sauce.

The BBQ chicken, ribs, and links are missing the smoky crust that our BBQ had in abundance. I have yet to meet a great sauce with the mix of smoky, tart, sweet and heat I am looking for. For now, I'll keep heading home to the parents or the Carolinas for the real BBQ.

Re: “Funk and Perfume

We really enjoyed our food and the portions were huge. Win, win -- bargain prices and tasty food.
