Re: “Two Highly Touted Oakland Charter Schools Quickly Closed, Now Owe the District Money

The charter extremists spent big money to defeat me and the 3 other challengers to the GO Advocates dominated board and management.

Here we are in the same school year and we have the budget in a mess, the superintendent job hopping and poor charter oversight reaping it's rewards.

All of this was said before and during the election, but reporting has been scarce.

Where have Cat Brooks and KPFA been? The other media? Local news needs to report on local government and except for Darwin, it hardly does.

Re: “Vote With Us! The East Bay Express' Endorsements for Election Day 2016

I'm personally dissapointed that you endorsed Jody. I was certainly not interviewed and I have no idea why you endorsed this GO candidate, but not the others.

Some reason would be nice.
I found nothing in the write up.

Re: “Oakland Sergeant Says Police Chief, Mayor Retaliated Against Him For Investigating Cop Who May Have Killed Wife

No wonder it is so hard to get the public's attention on what happens at planning, rent board, the port commission or the school board. This never ending soap opera distracts Oakland from local governance.

Vote for LL and let's have a police commission keep an eye on the needed reforms.

Re: “Candidates Vying for Oakland School Board Seats Defined by Positions on Charter Schools

Good report, I consider it fair.
I feel correctly quoted.

There are basically two slates:

The local school slate led up by the four Oakland Justice coalition candidates, including me (

The privatization / Eli Broad, outside money friends group mostly defined by GO Public Schools endorsed and funded incumbents.
(With a couple exceptions of course)

Glad to see some of this incredible money and influence in the press. This has been the big story in our schools for a couple elections now. The big difference is that we now have a challenger from the pro public school side in every district in contention. If 3 of the 4 win, we have a new board majority free of GO control, where as they currently helped elect 6 of the 7 incumbents.

What I felt deserves to be added is the consistent 15 year erosion of racial integration caused by charter and charter style school choice. KQED did a good recent series on the subject:…

Re: “Oakland Police Union Spending Thousands on Effort to Unseat Councilmembers Kalb and Gallo

And my school board opponent Jody London is now helping them by campaigning with Moore, who is exactly the same challenge to Rebecca Kaplan. If you vote for police accountability, some police officers retaliate and the standard politics happen. The public is well served to look at who took which side.

Please look at the options and please vote yes on LL, for Kaplan, Kalb and Gallo.

And if you want to look at District 1 school board, I'd be grateful to serve.

Re: “A Look at Who is Financing Oakland City Council Candidates

Who else has the support of the police officers association?
