Re: “Wednesday's Briefing: Alameda County Board of Supervisors approve reforms to Urban Shield, but will it lose funding?

So... Yet again the raiders are going to give us less that is costs to host them. Who is the idiot that negotiated that agreement?

Berkeley article: CBS Sports?!

Urban Shield: -Alameda County Supervisor Wilma Chan on discerning whether the boards action puts the federal grant at risk. How is it that the supervisor DOESN'T know this. Does the county no have attorneys reviewing agreements? How is it that we, the electorate, keep electing this kind of incompetence?!

Re: “Arreguin Sees the Light on the Density

Actually Aday, ANY construction will ease the issue taking pressure off of the existing units. Attempting your mandates will simply dissuade developers from doing any building which will make the issue worse, not better.

And for you Darin. The event that created Peoples Park was protests against the University building housing... Well, it SORT of houses some people now. Not well, but it does it... Sort of. So, yes, let's make it a national monument to short sighted stupidity and make sure NO housing is EVER built there.... Exactly the cause fed by your NIMBYism.

Re: “Friday Briefing: Bankrupt PG&E wants to give $235 million in bonuses; Rain is quenching California's thirst

According to other, more complete coverage, those bonuses are to go to the rank and file employees.. Not the executives. Let's tell the whole story please.

Re: “Wednesday's Briefing: Day 5 of the Teachers’ Strike; Xavier Becerra Sides With Criminal Cops

OK, criminal cops have to go. PERIOD. Every other crime has consequences. If cops have none...

Why do I bother.

Re: “Arreguin Sees the Light on the Density

Charlie, while that particular BART development isn't ideal, it makes things a LITTLE better. Higher density development is what HAS to happen.

The cities ringing the bay can't continue to hold fast to three story construction.

Even without people pouring into the bay area (and they are) population growth alone demands more and denser rebuilding.

"Progressive" NIMBYs have to stop and do it now. They got theirs. Now others need theirs too.

Re: “Oakland Schools Go Back to the Future With Vo-Tech

About time! Right now the largest block of debt in this country is student loans for university and college. You can't bankrupt out of them or discharge them in any other way. In aggregate, it's larger that the total of credit card debt or home loans.

People have been talking about this for a LONG time and the college for everyone people have shouted them down.

Hunt around on youtube for Mike Rowe (Ya know, Dirty Jobs?) and you can find some good common sense thinking on this. It's a thing he believes in this so much he put together a trade/craft apprenticeship matching program at:

https://www.mikeroweworks.org/

It's not JUST for Oakland folks... The whole country needs this.

Might also want to check out his podcast, "The way I heard it".

I'll leave that to you to find.

Re: “Should We Break Up PG&E?

Uhhh... Eric, I suggest you have a look at history. The indigenous people practiced regular and controlled burns to manage the forest and bend it to their most effective use.

"John Muir" management is part of what led to these disasters. Note I say PART.
