A disappointing distraction that will do little to clarify or underscore the stark differences between these candidates. I hope there will also be debates about Costa-Hawkins and universal health care.

Buffy Wicks will do anything to protect Costa-Hawkins, including writing her own puff pieces that play well in soft left, middle or upper-class neighbourhoods. Anyone who rents should vote for Jovanka Beckles.

I am deeply confused by the OHA's statement. Surely their property is public, not private? And how do they define the 'general public', who are not allowed to gather at the publicly-owned 'private' housing they maintain?

Our homeless residents are the casualties of increasingly out of control capitalism, which is now eating its own in order to keep feeding the corporate bottom line. Housing should be a right, not a privilege, and we need a massive public housing program to alleviate this perpetually growing problem. Unfortunately, the preponderance of comments attached to this story suggest that even the 'liberal' Bay Area isn't interested in the kind of systemic change that's needed.
