Re: “Oakland Landlord Beefs with City, Calls for 'No More Homeless Camps,' with Halloween Decorations

You know Gene, if you hate Oakland so much why not sell (at a handsome profit) and move to Danville or Pleasanton where people are more in line with your beliefs and politics? I'm sure you can have Trump parties while your wife blows up her credit cards at Stoneridge Mall.

Re: “Skywest Restaurant

This is one of my go to places since I moved nearby. BUT...Customer service is sometimes lacking.

Sunday around 1pm, it took awhile for the woman server to bring silverware, etc., to our table. My friends arrived and we made our order. We were the only guests seated at the tables and ordering food.

40 minutes later, our meals finally come out. My omelette was incorrect, not what I ordered. Friend's bbq double burger had no bbq sauce on it. We had to keep waving her down for everything we needed. MAINLY: our server said nothing friendly or welcoming to us at each occasion she came to our table. She was straight-faced, no smile. Yawning behind counter. We were the only ones seated and eating a meal.

This is not unusual here. So just come when you're not rushed, be prepared to 'wave' down the server. The tasty meals, freshly prepared and presented, and view of the golf course greens make it worth it.

Re: “Letters of the Week: Our Readers Chime in on Last Week's Issue

Mr. Sagehorn, you're right. It's not a "conspiracy" -- but has it ever occurred to you that most people don't have something called a "portfolio," and can't afford to be players in the game you describe? People should be free to play the game, but survival shouldn't be dependent on it: when it is, that's its own form of totalitarianism (the hegemony of Ownership). For vast numbers of people, true economic freedom comes down to freedom FROM economic need -- not the privilege of gambling on property if they so choose.

Re: “Ippudo's Legendary Ramen Hits Berkeley

This review is spot-on in pretty much every detail -- but can't we ever have a ramen review without that seemingly obligatory, oh-so-cutesy (and all-too-overworked and tired) word "SLURP"?

Re: “A Towering Scam

Michael, my point is that City would get higher tax revenues from many other types of businesses than the HQ of a transportation company. While I think the Oakland business tax structure should be an even playing that doesn't tax one type of business differently from another, that ain't gonna happen.

Re: “NFL Owners Are Failing Miserably — and Often

The attitude and behavior of the NFL owners reflects the general current state of American culture. Instead of letting Trumps divisive tweets change the whole conversation into being about the flag and a stupid song, the owner of the Houston Texas along with the other owners just showed everybody who they really are. They are a group of greedy, arrogant, racist old white men whose behavior and actions are usually just plain stupid. That combination pervades our politics, private businesses and public institutions. Despite the orange tinged national example of regressive social consciousness from the White House, the fact is that in the real world, it is 2017, not 1957. Women and people of color are not going back to a world where white males can do and say whatever they want without consequence. If the NFL owners do not change the way they do business, they will surely kill the golden goose. Attendance numbers and TV ratings are down this year. Families are starting to steer young kids away from playing football because of potential long term CTE impacts. High schools all over the country this year do not have enough participation to field varsity teams. Instead of being transparent about CTE and examining alternative methods of pain management for players, the owners like the cigarette industry in the past and global warming deniers, continue to claim ignorance as the best defense. Instead of providing a backstop for loyal fans in San Diego and Oakland to get stadiums built, they allow two storied franchises to leave town, in hopes of some fantasy windfall of dollars in the future. The attendance in Los Angeles for the Rams and Chargers is pathetic. The Raiders were supposed to be vaulting to the top of the league in time for the big move to Las Vegas. However, they now look like a long shot for the playoffs this year. If they do not win in Oakland before their departure, they will be playing to empty seats in Las Vegas. Just look at how they allowed Jed York and his greedy arrogance to screw up the 49er franchise. The same fate will befall the Raiders in Las Vegas.

Re: “Oakland Landlord Beefs with City, Calls for 'No More Homeless Camps,' with Halloween Decorations

I wish the City of Oakland would enforce their ordinances about signs against this jerk. I've reported him multiple times via See, Click, Fix because he's in violation of city codes with his giant lighted signs. I hope the former tenant wins his lawsuit. This jerk doesn't deserve to own property in Oakland, particularly not a diverse, friendly neighborhood like Adams Point.

Re: “While Cases Against Cops Fall Apart, a Civilian Who Allegedly Pimped Celeste Guap Is Ordered to Stand Trial

There's absolute proof police officers pimped Guap, as well as had sex with her when she was a minor, yet once again the police are above the law and none of them have been found to be culpable.
The case hasn't been built up against Mr Knight...so "alleged" is used correctly.

Another unhinged white dude on the wrong side of history and who has very little to no understanding of social problems or how we got to where we are today. Look in the mirror, Gorelick, you're one of the reasons, not the solution. Good luck, dumb*ss

Re: “Kaiser Still Violating Mental Health Laws, Clinicians Say

2017,My 15 year old child was deemed no longer needing treatment. Then 8 mnths later she begged me to get back in . When I asked why she only could get in every 3 weeks I was told ," I give her homework and she needs time to practice the new tools" . My child says no such thing ever happened. Recently my husband found her journal, the Entire time she's been under Kaiser's "care" her issues have been escalating, she's talked to her therapist with no different approach, worse no word to her parents of worsening depression OR notification of a diagnosis she gave her . I in the last 3 weeks have tried to utilize my Kaiser health care while my child is in full blown crisis spoken to 2 managers multiple times. Their response 5weeks out there is an appointment. I have already spent $800 on private therapy in 3 weeks that brought my child safely from the edge,no thanks to Kaiser. My attorney is my next call,to have them cover these necessary out of pocket expenses.

Len Raphael: Just curious... Are you deploring the fact that (under the current business tax) Oakland wouldn't be able to tax Uber for fares paid in Hong Kong or Helsinki? ;-)

Re: “A Towering Scam

Uber always hedged it bet on whether the Oakland building acquisition was just a real estate investment to be flipped or their new HQ. Uber's internal problems might have had something to do with final decision, but Oakland factors even less.

Uber would have brought jobs, some sales and business tax and property tax revenue, but because of Oakland's business tax on transportation businesses headquarters, it looked like Uber would have only paid business tax on the revenue directly from Oakland activity, a tiny fraction of it's total gross receipts.

Interesting... When it's a civilian, the word used is "Allegedly"... But in previous articles, referring to OPD, not once.

Wonder what THAT means?

Just bus them out of here. Take some public land out of the immediate area and set up a camp. It is the safest thing to do for those who are homeless and for those that have gainful employment etc etc etc
