Re: “What Should the Pot Industry Look Like?

Good article. Yes, cannabis can't be the only legalized product without regulation, but we could regulate it more like vegetable farmers selling from roadside stands for small farmers, and learn from the craft brewing / winery model instead of a big business one. The cannabis industry has fallen prey to predatory investing and other practices that stack the cards against any small business, and ought to be fixed for everyone.

Re: “Undersheriff Said Oakland Police Stood Up Deputies at 'Moms 4 Housing' Eviction

Don't worry about the Moms. They all ended up with a place to live bought by someone else, for which they will pay token rent. The good part is that Libby has endorsed home seizure in Oakland and many more homeless will be following suit.

Re: “What Should the Pot Industry Look Like?

Why did "we" just legalized it? Because the revenue from the taxes was seen as a savior for the cities gutted b prop 13.

Re: “Berkeley Greenlights BART Housing in Principle, But the Devil Is In the Details.

"community-driven, nonprofit development,"

Funded exactly how? God knows students and "activists" pay almost no taxes on the kind of scale needed to fund the boondoggles and "bread and circuses" "the community" wants and the politicians haven't the will to make corporation pay their fair share.

I know! let's just print money!

Re: “Wednesday's Briefing: Oakland bans criminal background checks for tenants; Howard Terminal ballpark inches forward

Until 6 years ago, of a 60+ year life, I was a renter. Not ONCE in all that time was a criminal background check performed... And I DO have a serious record with multiple felonies!

As a result I find myself wondering about this ordinance... Is this a "feel good" so that politicians can signal how "woke" they are? How much impact will this really have?

...And on to Piedmont: "Local Control" - The rally cry that is how "we" keep "greedy developers" out of our communities...

And keep them from building the much needed housing for our communities... All in the name of keeping the "character" (1940s/50s architecture and densities) of the town/city... The dung heaps they become due to people living on the streets.

Gack!

Re: “Staying Saucy in Temescal

Thank you Katherine for dining with us and for writing this detailed review on our joint! 😃 Love all the dishes you wrote about.

We just want to clarify that although our Saucy Wings have gone through phases before our opening, the current version does NOT contain fish sauce

‼️ Our Saucy Wings are tossed in a soy, freshly grated ginger, and sweet chili sauce. Similar in that they are sticky and sweet like the well known Korean wing style, it’s actually very different and unique in its own Saucy way 😋

Re: “Berkeley Greenlights BART Housing in Principle, But the Devil Is In the Details.

Someone has to say it: 100% of zero is still zero & Friends of Adeline is a NIMBY cabal. Anyone believing they're pushing affordable housing is naive at best.

Re: “Berkeley Greenlights BART Housing in Principle, But the Devil Is In the Details.

Lee-Egan of North Berkeley Now said she's lived in the neighborhood near the BART station about six years and "always felt the surface parking lot was underutilized."

Yep. I guess that's why all the 4 hour parking signs on the adjacent streets, right?

And be sure to build it high like they do in Emeryville.

Re: “Berkeley Greenlights BART Housing in Principle, But the Devil Is In the Details.

The question of affordable housing seems very straightforward to solve:
1) Fund as much as possible with the remaining Measure O funds
2) Pass as big a bond as possible in November 2020 to fund even more
3) Build market rate housing to fund even more

Re: “The East Bay's Changing Demographics

How can Hispanics/Latinos afford such high housing in the East Bay(or the Bay area in general) if they have low incomes?

Re: “Alameda Contemplates License Plate Readers at Island's Entry Points

"We're a very safe community, but there are folks who do some pretty horrendous things that pass through here," [Alameda Mayor] Ashcraft said. "At the end of the day I think we all want a safe community."

Sad to see the Mayor of Alameda perpetuate the racist myth that bad people come from outside of Alameda to commit crime.

Re: “The Great Cannabis Crash of 2019

My retail cannabis company is doing just fine. How? By using good business practices, e.g. not overpaying for rent, equipment, advertising, etc. By not borrowing money. By being in compliance with the law. Good customer service. Long hours. Open early, open late. By being honest. Paying our vendors. Expanding slowly. Making realistic assumptions about projections. Some luck in there, undoubtedly, but mostly hard work. We watch our competitors party and piss away money like its water. And go under. While still selling in the black market, which is where they learned nothing about how to run a business.

Re: “The Great Cannabis Crash of 2019

Nail on the head... but, of it was predicted in 2016 at StopProp64 on Facebook. The the politicians knew full well 64 was a scam, to allow big money to take over, which is why they promoted it, in direct contradicion to the recommendations of Newsom's Blue Ribbon Panel, and all the market protections afforded by the intelligently legislated medical law freshly passed by the assembly. Blame Kamala Harris for breaking her oath and sworn duty as AG by changing the ballot name of the Control, Tax, and Regulate Cannabis Act to Legalize Marijuana, a move clearly designed to sway voters. Her proximity to Willie Brown, and his to Harborside, cannot go overlooked.

Re: “The Great Cannabis Crash of 2019

I predicted this crash several years ago when I realised weed prices will drop with factory farming. I predict prices will go way lower as more farms come on line.

Re: “The Great Cannabis Crash of 2019

This is false reporting unfortunately. Many companies named as shutting their doors in this article, in fact are not going out of business. All companies named in this article should have been fact checked with before making statements about their current standing. I wanted to say great article too, and then found out that it wasn't factual, which is truly, truly unfortunate. Please reprint and repost and reshare updated factual information.

Re: “Towing for Dollars in Alameda

What is happening now? One of my clients lives there and has been towed twice. When he moved him he told them that he needed two parking spots and they said no problem. They will not let him pay for a parking spot.l They will not alert him about towing.
