Re: “Oakland Police Hold Secret Ceremony Honoring Several Officers Accused of Mishandling Celeste Guap Sex-Crimes Investigation

When we are victims of a robbery or assault, or when we see a crime on the street and are asked to be a witness, this scandal has zero relevance to our trust of the police.

Re: “Oakland Police Hold Secret Ceremony Honoring Several Officers Accused of Mishandling Celeste Guap Sex-Crimes Investigation

It is no longer a question of "if" but rather when the Oakland Mayor, and from what I'm hearing, the DA will launch their bids for relection. I wish we would see some movement signaling they have the community's best interest at heart. If that is not forthcoming, the community has the responsibility and obligation to replace them with those who do. Gaby Dolphin Delegate AD18

Re: “Berkeley Passes Ambitious Plan To Tackle Homelessness, Wants Ballot Measure in 2018 to Help Pay for It

Ballot measure?!! Forget that, have Tenants Together, Causa Justa, and Urban Habitat to name just three pay for it out of their coffers! That would be the right thing to do and have them put their donor money, not tax payer money, put where their mouths are for a change!

Re: “Oakland’s New Budget — What’s in it for the Arts?

The activists are never happy because they can never get enough and would rather complain than take it upon themselves to help in truly the right way which is assist others in being more self reliant not subsidies. So tired of it all and the division they stoke via their mantra on social justice versus personal responsibility.

Re: “Oakland Police Hold Secret Ceremony Honoring Several Officers Accused of Mishandling Celeste Guap Sex-Crimes Investigation

This is sick and disgusting. If the police aren't subject to the same laws as the rest of us, what's to stop them?

Re: “Oakland Police Hold Secret Ceremony Honoring Several Officers Accused of Mishandling Celeste Guap Sex-Crimes Investigation

Libby Schaaf is running for re-election on a platform of transparent responsive trustworthy government: https://libbyformayor.wordpress.com/
And the transparency over the Ghost Ship fire: http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/02/04/edit…
The 2015 State of the City address mentions transparency: http://www2.oaklandnet.com/oakca1/groups/c…
It is one thing to not admit the public, but not admitting the press to document what is going on is not transparent.

Re: “Oakland Police Hold Secret Ceremony Honoring Several Officers Accused of Mishandling Celeste Guap Sex-Crimes Investigation

What a waste and disgrace. Millions in settlements for police crimes, cover -ups, and court costs and Mayor Schaaf decides to throw more money at bad cops. Oakland foots the bill for a private party for OPD and City Officials. I guess we should be grateful that Libby didn't take the entire police force to Mar-a-Lago.

Re: “Oakland Police Hold Secret Ceremony Honoring Several Officers Accused of Mishandling Celeste Guap Sex-Crimes Investigation

Why would you use the word, "Mishandling", in your headline, about a story, regarding a case of child rape and a police department wide conspiracy to conceal this rape? The police didn't "mishandle" this young girl, as you say here, nor did they mishandle this case. They committed purjury, conspired, and initiated a young under age woman, into selling herself, and also leaked police information about ongoing criminal cases, in exchange for sexual relations. They abused their authority, and this young woman.

Re: “Oakland Police Chief Doubles-Down on Promoting the Cops Who Covered-Up the Celeste Guap Case

And you wonder why protests rise to the levels they do in this city.
Why on earth should anyone respect any rule of law here?
Lead by example.

Re: “How the Oakland Police Department Worked to Cover-Up Sex Crimes and a Home Invasion Committed by Cops

After reading more....Monitor's and Swanson reports and latest EBX coverage, agree with Len.....The OPD culture will never change when OPD supervisory officers become politically untouchable and receive successive promotions.....Very disappointed in new Chief's promotion of Holmgren (bad decisions/actions in Occupy, Cortez and at multiple stages of the O'Brien and Jasmine victimization / sex scandal cases....Chief Kirkpatrick's excuse--Monitor OK'd the promotions, doesn't fly because that approval occurred while Swanson investigation still in progress.....Instead of being revisited, the Lois and Holmgren promotions are being finalized today......

with body cams and failed internal investigations, it is abundantly clear the police must be policed.

Re: “Oakland Police Chief Doubles-Down on Promoting the Cops Who Covered-Up the Celeste Guap Case

Add the judge to the list of corrupt officials. He could have imposed much harder penalties, since he's retiring next month and won't have to live with the consequences. Instead, he scolds the city and, basically, lets it continue its disgraceful conduct.

Re: “Federal Judge Orders City of Oakland to Fix Internal Affairs and Criminal Investigations of Police Misconduct

Burris is a hypocrite. He supported a totally frivolous civil suit against my father and I costing us about 130K when a person who borrowed money from us sued after breaching the loan contract AND defaulting. He's no Robin-hood. My father and I are white and the people who sued us are minority race. They had unlimited resources to pretty much harass us into giving his clients what they wanted.

Re: “Oakland Looks to Close Owner Move-In and Occupancy Loopholes, Reduce Evictions and Harmful Rent Increases

The City's own surveys show that public concerns about housing affordability, displacement and homelessness rank higher than concerns about crime. In which case, the City is actually focusing on issues that are of most concern to Oakland residents.

As for this claim: "many who have had sweetheart rent deals for decades and quite honesty want to keep them for life. That is big motivator for making claims that may not actually be true", what actual documentation do you have that this is widespread?

The vast majority of Oakland renters are paying far more than 30% of their income for rent. That's not a "sweetheart rent deal".

Re: “Who Will Be There When You Call 911? Our Writer Plunges Into the World of For-Profit Ambulances.

It is such a broken system- where are the policy makers? Where are the voters demanding a working system? This is one of so many broken systems in Alameda County- take your pick- but I do wonder what the policy makers @$100K + a year actually do.
