Time for a complete take-over of OPD....breaking the law to or while enforcing the law does not make us safer........

Re: “Hayward Police Chief: There Is No Video of Fatal Police Shooting of 16-Year-Old Elena Mondragon

5:20 pm doesn't sound like any time of night. Teens don't always tell parents the truth about where they are or where their going and if she was two years older `an adult` would this of not happen. Yes it would have. Young people as well as adults are suppose to be able to depend on those who are suppose to serve and protect us and this young lady to use critical thinking skills. Which they obviously lacked. Also when and where was it said to be a fact that anyone was armed. I love how people read what they want and not was wrote.

Re: “New Oakland Police Sexual Misconduct Case Leads to Discovery of Drugs Stashed in Locker

Sources?! EBX published this garbage?!

Nothing about the man (verified) found shot outside an Oakland bar on Wednesday? Nothing about the verifiable drive by shooting in East Oakland today?

How about if BG get's out of the dispensary he is clearly spending time in and does some writing?

Re: “Living Downstairs, or Lying?: Advocates Say Oakland Landlords Pretending to Reside in Apartments so as to Evict Tenants

Angel Halo Medina, you are right that mold is a Health code issue and must be taken care of. This does not change the fact that mold abatement is expensive and someone has to pay. In the case of prop 13, however you are wrong. It does not mean low property taxes. Maybe it helped back in the 80's when it was new, but it is a state law that has nothing to do with local ordinances. Every parcel tax and most bonds you vote for raise property taxes. Last year our property tax bill was almost $8000. That did not include the raise that will be applied because of measure KK - $70 per $100k of assessed value means a rise of $700 per year for a million dollar property. So the idea that prop 13 means property taxes are low is the myth. Do your research, better yet, walk a mile in the shoes of a property owner before you judge.

Re: “California to Require All Marijuana to be Lab Tested. What Will Happen to Weed That Fails the Lab?

They now have extraction methods that take out pesticides. Everything else dies in co2 extraction. So the product will fly

Re: “California to Require All Marijuana to be Lab Tested. What Will Happen to Weed That Fails the Lab?

vape pen materials will be tested as well Mr Smith. They cannot recycle to a non tested product. The regulations will separate the skilled growers who dont use pesticides from the less skilled wgo use them as a crutch. Protection of people from inhalable pesticides will clean up this industry. Do you realize that there is no synthetic pesticide that is approved for inhalation? eating and inhaling are two different pathways and the body has few ways to filter an inhaled toxin.

Re: “California to Require All Marijuana to be Lab Tested. What Will Happen to Weed That Fails the Lab?

The article asks where the weed that fails testing will go. It will probably be turned into hash oil and sold in vape pens for 10x the price. Companies like tetra labs are already doing this in California, and they are quite open about their use of "unsaleable" buds. I believe they use micron filtration to remove all biological contaminants from fungal spores, insects, etc. and then further dewax and refine the oil until it is almost pure cannabinoid. Interesting stuff indeed.

Re: “How Serious is the Wild Fire Threat in the Oakland Hills?

This is not an issue of flats vs. hills (or shouldn't be). My residence almost burned in 1991, and I don't live in the Hills - embers blowing from the east almost took it out.

The Wildfire District 'lost' its reauthorization vote because it was 'only' able to muster 65% of the vote. The requirement for a two-thirds 'super-majority' for tax assessments is absurd, and the State Constitution should be amended to remove it.

Re: “On Garage Rock's Masked Conservatism and Regressive Politics

'Garage rock' is conservative insofar as its adherents and practitioners reject most post-70's advances in technology and changes in popular culture. It is no more inherently 'politically conservative' than any other style of music. John Lydon likes Donald Trump; Mo Tucker is a Tea Partier; Johnny Ramone was a rock-ribbed Republican, yet we would not and should not condemn punk rock or the New York experimental music scene of the late 1960s because people with 'regressive politics' were 'allowed' to participate.

Re: “California to Require All Marijuana to be Lab Tested. What Will Happen to Weed That Fails the Lab?

I think quality control is needed just like any industry. Without putting regulations into place, no one will ever know the true quality of their cannabis. They've already started implementing Quanta technology on cannabis all over the west coast to remove negative side effects like paranoia anxiety red eye etc... I'm hoping that these types of innovations will not only provide better product, but change the "stoner stereotype" on people who use cannabis.

Re: “Public Defender Says Arraignments at New Alameda County Courthouse in Dublin Denies Access to Courts for Low-Income People-of-Color

Although I can see both sides to this conversation, what I find missing from the discussion is the fact that the new Dublin location is more convenient for the Judges, lawyers, court clerks and Sheriff department staff. I would suggest that those are the people who live in Pleasanton, Dublin,San Ramon, Dublin, Livermore and even the central valley. Those are the folks whose commutes disappear altogether or become demonstrably shorter with the opening of a Dublin court facility. I find it hard to believe that the inmates are the ones upset because they have to get up at 3 a.m. and go on a bus ride to Oakland or Hayward. It is probably a welcome relief to the monotony of incarceration. It seems unfair that if the majority of those arrested and the majority county population is more centralized, that all of the arraignments should happen in Dublin. The only city in the county farther east than Dublin is Livermore. Although Dublin is serviced by BART, the station is not convenient to the courthouse and public bus transit in this suburban city is not a dependable alternative. At least the county should consider having the workload split with the Hayward courthouse to give inmate families a chance to show support. The criminal justice system is already stacked against poor black and brown people. This just seems like piling on.
