Re: “Oakland Police Chief Doubles-Down on Promoting the Cops Who Covered-Up the Celeste Guap Case

Punish the beat cops but promote the supervising brass. Business as usual at OPD.

Re: “Oakland Police Chief Doubles-Down on Promoting the Cops Who Covered-Up the Celeste Guap Case

The citizens of Oakland deserve better. Promoting higher ups involved in coverups tells me that the police department, even with a new chief, has not changed and has no intention of changing. The coup de grace is Coleman investigating police misconduct. OPD, Mayor Schafer and City Administrator Landreth don't seem to mind maintaining the status quo. What a shame!

Re: “Arson in Oakland: Is Someone Torching New Developments?

The phrase "God gave Noah the rainbow sign, no more water the fire next time" was the source of the Baldwin quote above. It should be understood that the fire referred to in this passage was divine in nature and potential origin. The idea of humans invoking and exacting such a level of biblical judgement is cause only for concern given the arrogance and limitation endemic to mankind.

Re: “Arson in Oakland: Is Someone Torching New Developments?

Fulani. perhaps you are forgetting that fires can and frequently do KILL people. No matter where you stand on gentrification, the notion of burning down constructions sites/buildings by way of protest is absurd. Constructing a rationale for arson like this is in my view irresponsible. It could only serve to encourage such criminal activity.

Re: “Who Will Be There When You Call 911? Our Writer Plunges Into the World of For-Profit Ambulances.

It's about time the media shined a light on this serious public health issue. You would think in a progressive county like ours this could not happen.
I've always had a problem with "For Profit" companies providing emergency services. It doesn't work to the benefit of the taxpayers.

If this is not the end of Schaaf and Kirkpatrick, then Oakland deserves exactly what it will continue to get; a deepening cesspool of lies & corruption.

Re: “Yuzu Ramen & Broffee Goes Deep To the Bone

$17 for a bowl of noodles? Arsonists need to stop burning down those new condo developments so these ramen places can have customers.

"Lot's of hate disguised as help comes out of these orgs." You think you can elaborate on this? Show some proof? No. Just another hater of non-profit organizations that are for people in need.
If I worked for one I would have said so.

OMG...what a pit of vipers. Schaaf needs to be removed from office as does the Chief of OPD.

Troubling, to say the least. I hope the Police Commission will do their due diligence once they're up and running. We'll need all hands on deck to bring about the long overdue reforms that are needed to earn the community's trust in its police department.

And people wonder why Oakland is so dysfunctional.

Yes, let's cut first responder services and give into the mob rule mentality.

Re: “Arson in Oakland: Is Someone Torching New Developments?

Suddenly concerned about the new condo construction across the street. Will it be torched and will my buildings and neighboring buildings be evacuated or even catch fire? This is not the way to stop gentrification, higher rents, and displacement.

Re: “City of Alameda Allows Pot Businesses on Island

Thank you for this article and the subsequent coverage.

I was one of the first speakers
To address the council that night and spoke about employment, traffic, and commuting issues as related to Cannabis positively affecting Alameda.

I believe we met that night my name is Rich Moskowitz.

There are currently two groups established inAlameda . AICC ( alameda island cannabis community) a joint business and citizen group, and ASCA ( Alameda Safe Cannabis Access), and soon to be a third dedicated just to neighbors educating neighbors about the benefits of cannabis for our community.

Feel free to reach out to me if you'd like background on the groups, issues, players, etc.

Re: “Oakland Could Lose Control of Its Police Force After Next Week's Court Hearing

OPD has been out the control of city hall for a very long time.

OPD's ongoing problems have been major expressions of a near-totally incompetent and corrupt civic government.

No matter how tough the Federal Court may get with OPD, the Department's problems of ineffectiveness, ethical challenges, low morale, high rate of turnover, inefficiency, high financial cost and deeply-impaired relations with our diverse communities will not improve until there is a whole new crew of electeds in city hall.

Oakland needs real leaders in city hall. That means honest people with brains, with management skills, with a vision for Oakland and with a high level of ethical achievement.

Re: “Arson in Oakland: Is Someone Torching New Developments?

This is what real class warfare looks like. People are not just gonna sit around and do nothing as all options are taken from them. Whats real is this isn't a crime committed by some homeless drug addicted street person. The people behind these acts are willing to take the stand against the contiuning exploition of the Bay area by Realtors and Developers who's main concern is always profit over people,to the next level. James Baldwin said it best."THE FIRE NEXT TIME" is now.
