Re: “Democrat Rebecca Bauer-Kahan Wins the East Bay Assembly District 16 Race

Wouldn't conclude that her victory had much to do with people ignoring smear campaigns or not getting swayed by tons of mailing pieces. Maybe more a vote against Trump, maybe a better ground game? In Oakland Berkeley Albany Piedmont Richmont Emeryville 15AD there hasn't been a viable Republican candidate for years. The Dem who won, vastly outspent and out mailed the other candidate and had an independent expenditure sending smearing away.

Re: “Democrat Rebecca Bauer-Kahan Wins the East Bay Assembly District 16 Race

Not a surprise to me. I voted by mail early. I was not subject to the smear mailers that Ms Bakers sopporters sent out. Such a waste of paper & money. Smear campaigns should be in the past. Congratulations Rebecca!

Re: “Oakland Police Release Video of Officers Fatally Shooting a Homeless Man

Moo I didn't personally know Josh, even though we ran in the same circles for years, but I'd heard about him and his character plenty, and I'm rather bummed to not have been able to meet him because truly good hearted folks are becoming a rarity in the world these days. Regardless, of any of that, this situation was handled completely incorrectly. He never even moved until after the first officer shouted, and even then it took a moment. If you compare the end of the video go the beginning, the time it took for the officers to move in behind the shield took about as long as it took for Josh to begin to respond to the first commands from officers that roused him in the first place. The officers very well could have moved in as quietly as the proved they could in the video, and disarmed him, most likely without ever waking him up at all. Though I must say, some credit is due the officers for NOT stonewalling the press and readily handing over the body cam videos. That is about THE ONLY thing they've done right in this whole situation. To Ms. Pawlik: I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope that justice is found and that it helps to begin the healing process for you. Love & Light to you.

Re: “Further Evidence Emerges that the Oakland Police Under-Reported Use of Force Incidents

This information, along with Monitor's commentary in report that OPD was "resisting" fully analyzing its Stop Data (matter discussed at most recent Police Commission) raise grave concerns about OPD/its leaders taking steps to reform culture/practice necessary to reaching compliance.

Re: “Democrat Rebecca Bauer-Kahan Wins the East Bay Assembly District 16 Race

This is a true win for trees. Catherine Baker inundates voters with literally 20 plus mailings a week. And if that isnt bad enough, many of those are just slandering her opponent. Karma wins again

Re: “Updated: Tony Thurmond Wins State Schools Chief Contest

Shellie,

Ironically, while criticizing someone elses spelling, you misspelled Tony Thurmonds name by spelling it THRUMOND. Examine your spelling before judging the spelling of others.

Re: “Democrat Rebecca Bauer-Kahan Wins the East Bay Assembly District 16 Race

News Flash! Mail-in ballots Count! Face it, Bauer-Kahan won because we outworked you guys and presented a positive message that reflected the values of the district. Voter suppression might work in some states, not in California. Time for you guys to find a new strategy.

Tony, I only know of you because of our son Todd, his respect for you and your support for public schools has made you're winning the election a happy day in our family...and public education.

Re: “Demnlus Johnson and Eduardo Martinez Win Richmond Council Seats

I hope Vinay pulls it out. He is a wonderful person, works very hard and is a strong, independent and fiscally responsible voice on the council. It looks like we are finally rid of the RPA majority, and can move forward on important projects like Pt. Molate in a realistic and positive way.

Re: “Updated: Tony Thurmond Wins State Schools Chief Contest

Fantastic! So excited to hear that Tony's won. In the gloom of the smoke and the grief with the fires' devastation, this is a Joy to read. Congratulations, Tony, from one social worker to another.

Re: “Updated: Tony Thurmond Wins State Schools Chief Contest

Fantastic! Crongratulstiond, Tony. Tony Thurmond winning superintendent is a huge win for California schools. As a fellow social worker, we share similar values. Tony will continue to do a great job as he has already done locally.

Re: “Democrat Rebecca Bauer-Kahan Wins the East Bay Assembly District 16 Race

No you're wrong. As expected, Democrats turned out huge. Any claim of election fraud is a pathetic mix of projection and desperation. You lost, move on.
