Re: “Bar with the Most Diverse Clientele

A person from Castro Valley looks like a cross between Paris Hilton and Jimmy Hoffa and sometimes sporting a cute little beauty mark on the left cheek of its buttocks. The beauty mark always gives them away. Sure-fire sign.

Re: “Best Trainspotting

I love Brennan's. When I worked nearby it was my lunch spot at least one day a week. Great sandwiches made to order.

Re: “Best Trainspotting

Great choice - this is a terrific spot for lunch or dinner but the best time is in the late afternoon when the sun is going down. Have a few cold beers and a sandwich and see what you think...

Re: “Most Dedicated Campaign Volunteer

I had an opportunity, largely due to Jeans husband, Floyd to become involved in this campaign, and, I can tell you, that both Floyd and James Vann helped to make this one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Not only was I able to work with many great people, people who genuinely care about all of Oakland, but, because of the nature of Jeans campaign, I was able to help give voice to my community, something that has been missing historically from city hall, or those campaigning to inhabit it. I am happy to point out that my community continues to have a voice "downtown, because of Jean, and the hard work of people like Floyd Huen and James Vann. Hats off to both of these gentlemen for reminding us that, in the words of Margaret Mead, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

Re: “Most Dedicated Campaign Volunteer

Stillhere, rumor has it when City Attorney Russo left office he said privately to a few colleagues "The City is f**cked" You can't fix it by footing the bill to the next generation. How many murders are we at now? The Crime Lords of this City who also run the prisons and manipulate Oakland's children to do their dirty work, know that OPD is understaffed. Not too long ago 7 people in East Oakland were wounded within the same time frame. One person was killed. The bloody summer is not even over yet. Of course I care, we saw the conditions and lack of jobs this City has to offer them. China can't be bribed with wines or Oaklandish t-shirts. Were a city of 499,000, an average city in China is 4 million. Why get Oakland wine when now they can afford Napa Valley or French brands? The PRC already owns a slice of Oakland because they own the US debt. What a waste of taxpayer's money if you ask me. A parcel tax is going to fix all our problems?

Re: “Most Dedicated Campaign Volunteer

Sara, My sentiments exactly. Don't know or care to know taskmaster but hope (s)he cares enough for Oakland and all those people (s)he spoke with to now put away all the negativity and help Mayor Quan make Oakland the city we can all be proud of.

Re: “Most Dedicated Campaign Volunteer

As a volunteer for the other side who won the most 1st Choice Votes. I can attest that Quan did not have 1,000 volunteers. Anyone who signs up as a volunteer can be counted as such, but in reality there are really only a handful of activists such as Mr. Vann as well as volunteers of the Perata campaign. Despite our loss by default from a back room deal to get Assemblymember Sandre Swanson's endorsement when he terms out in 2012 ,between the 2nd and 3rd placed candidates, it was one of the funnest campaigns I ever worked on. We campaigned hard in deep East Oakland and carried the most votes there. Perata won most of the Council Districts especially Districts 6 & 7. Check the Registar of Voters if you don't believe me. We caught one of Quan's people sleeping and spammed his Civic with flyers and surrounded his area of operations with Perata Lawn signs that residents happily agreed to let us display them in the yard. From 109 to 69 ville and Sobrante Park; was all Perata territory despite us catching the Quan people ripping down our supporter's Lawn signs. A few of our young Perata team members that live in East Oakland did not want to campaign in West Oakland because its an automatic death wish stemming back since the 60's. One of our volunteers witnessed a suspect drop a pistol running from Police while another Don Perata volunteer witnessed a shooting in broad daylight on 107th near GOTV. At anytime the suspect could have turned his weapon on our dear friend, but a miracle happened, even though our friend's eyes met the shooter's eyes in a split second. After that, our fellow Perata campaigner went back to precinct walking. Recalling the latter months of GOTV, Sandre's guys were out in force with Assemblymember Swanson embroidered on their polos handing out literature from their Cadillac Escalade. Real campaigners Precinct Walk and get the lay of the land. (j/k) When they saw the Perata signs we put up all around them, they then acknowledged to me"Man you guys are giving us hell out here!" and gave us a handshake out of respect.
Sorry to vent, but the someone had to set the record straight. Quan was good and her team deserves respect, but we were the real grass roots campaign, that talked to residents one on one who were from some of the hardest hit communities of Oakland and learning from them what they envision as a model city.

Re: “Most Dedicated Campaign Volunteer

Dear EBX: I am flattered by your acknowledgement of my involvement with the 2010 Quan for Mayor campaign. However, your flowering recognition should properly be directed to Dr Floyd Huen, spose of the mayor. In addition to planning, directing, and implementing a brilliant field campaign, Dr Huen walked almost every day for almost a full year in every area of the city. I did what I could to help, but did not come even close.

YES! Jeff is a major inspiration. It is really great to see it acknowledged in the press. Thank you.

Re: “Best Environmentalist

While I'm sure you considered many conservationist for special recognition, your conclusion is sound. Jeff Miller is clear in his conviction for defending the natural landscape and wildlife. Jeff demands that government holds itself to same laws it expects the citizens to adhere to. Jeff has proven to be an asset for achieving good government in Alameda County and the state.

Re: “Best Pisco Sour
