Re: “New Ballpark Could Devastate Lake Merritt's Birds

So, the birds who stop by a man-made lake and fly to an estuary next to I-880, a major multi-lane interstate that sees heavy traffic pretty much all day with the noise and pollution associated with it, will be endangered by a baseball stadium?

Nice try. NEXT!

Re: “Friday’s Briefing: OUSD Overspent by Millions on Admin and Consultants; Half of Bay Area Renters Are ‘Economically Burdened’

There is way too many positions in the OAL athletic department. All you need is 1 good commissioner that knows what he is doing. That is how it has always been. Start cutting there first.

Re: “Friday’s Briefing: OUSD Overspent by Millions on Admin and Consultants; Half of Bay Area Renters Are ‘Economically Burdened’

Before making any cuts to the already stressed local schools, the OUSD Board should order the new Supt. to send out layoff notices to every HQ employee and notify consultants/constants of an economic emergency that will require re-negotiation if they want to do business with OUSD in the future.

OUSD should hurry up and fill the CFO and Internal Auditor positions that have been vacant for over a year.

Find your board member. Call AND email them before they've decided how they will vote in two weeks.

Re: “New Ballpark Could Devastate Lake Merritt's Birds

Gosh what NIMBYS will do to prevent Oakland from rising. Instead of complaining about how it could possibly be littered in the future they should go clean it now. Go check out how dirty is is right now, and homeless encampment alongside of it as well is what's causing the littering. Also, this area is not Madagascar, nor should we pretend it is.

Re: “Oakland Looks to Close Owner Move-In and Occupancy Loopholes, Reduce Evictions and Harmful Rent Increases

I'm a landlord with just one small unit. Virtually all of my tenants have been richer than I am. The idea that I should pay the guy who makes 4x what I do every year "a substantial amount" to relocate so I can move my elderly mother in is preposterous!

The assistance should be based on need and shared equally by the whole community the way that "food stamps" are. I'm happy to pay my share but yu don't expect Safeway or the corner market to sell people food at the same price they did 20 years ago so why am I singled out?

Re: “OPD’s Lost Officer Class

Congratulations for hinting that mayor Jean Quan rushed hiring just before her attempt to get re-elected. This was after years during which she let the department shrink, told lies about police salaries, and famously said that 92 percent of all violent crime in Oakland was in eight small neighborhoods ... or 90 percent in 100 city blocks ... or ... while she refused to identify the areas.

Re: “OPD’s Lost Officer Class

If you pass judgment on someone without the facts, you're an idiot in general, Mr. Hyatt. Maybe you should actually read the news reports from several years ago. The "idiot cop" responded to a report that a fire station was left open and someone was inside. The "idiot cop" went to the fire station. It was not lit up and there were multiple people inside the dark building. He did his job. He further investigated the potential in progress burglary and ensured that the person inside was actually allowed to be there, despite not being on duty with the fire crew who inadvertently left the door open and requested police services in the first place. He never even "drew his gun," as the firefighter falsely reported.

If I leave my home and forget to close the door, then call the police to lock up for me, I sure hope that anyone found inside will be detained to ensure no foul play, even if it turns out to be just a neighbor securing the place for me.

Watch the video, Mr. Hyatt. Even the firefighter, at the time, said he understood what happened and respected the actions of the police officer. He later decided to file a complaint and call the media before realizing it was all on tape and suddenly, and shamefully, realizing that his narrative was demonstrably false and disappearing.

Who is the idiot now, Mr. Hyatt? Look into it for yourself. Come to an INFORMED conclusion. Rushing to a judgment knowing nothing about it doesn't help anything.

Re: “More Public Corruption Investigations, Please

My name is Alvaro C. Rodriguez, I am a victim of fraud and deceit by members of the legal profession and have uncovered a 'fraudulent scheme of public corruption' a 'fraud on the court' affecting Alameda County residents and the American public. Two federal judges are accused with conspiring with five California state judges and other state officers of the court who are named as defendants in a 42 U.S.C. sec. 1983 law suit for Malicious Prosecution. See: Alvaro Rodriguez v. County of Alameda 85 F. 3d 637 (9th Cir. 1996). The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is currently Reviewing a Motion to Recall a Mandate and "Set Aside a Judgment for Fraud on the Court" pursuant to F.R.C.P. Rule 60 (d) (3). The Motion was filed on June 22, 2016 case No. 12--15938 Alvaro Rodriguez v. State of California. Extraordinary circumstances of newly discovered evidence reveals: the U.S. district court judge assigned to the above related cases, knowingly and willfully 'usurped judicial power' and deliberately "misrepresented a material fact" on three 'Orders' that distorts the 'Truth' and conceals a 'Key' document. The 'Key' document misrepresented and concealed by all involved is a complaint seeking a 'warrant' that was never signed or issued to support "probable cause" of a public offense. Facts - The "Lack of Subject Matter Jurisdiction" over the defendant and of the state and federal courts has been deliberately concealed by all involved. [N]o "accusatory pleading" or criminal charges were ever filed by the state to justify a misdemeanor DUI conviction. On Oct. 3, 1991 the Calif. Dept. of Motor Vehicles issued an "Order of Set Aside" in this "Notice to Appear" Vehicle Code traffic citation case. On May 7, 1993 the victim ( Mr. Alvaro C. Rodriguez) was convicted. Exposing 'Public Corruption' is an Honorable service. Ninth Circuit status check on July 27, 2017 - the case is under Review and pending. God bless America.

Nice mention around the 15min mark of this podcast where these efforts are cited as a more ambitious alternative to what major galleries and museums attempt in the world of fine arts. It's welcome to see some reverberation between underground and ivory tower.

Re: “Citing Possible School Closures and Fiscal Problems, Oakland School Board Denies New Charter School Petition

Same old same old. The people who profit from public schools want more funding. The best schools in Oakland are charter. And probably the worst. What Oakland needs to do is close another 1/3 of its schools, there simply is no need for them. They eat up too many resources to teach too few students.

Re: “Laney or Bust!

Naomi Schiff is spot on. There is a certified EIR at the Coliseum site. Beyond spending several hundred thousand dollars on the EIR and Area Plan, the now defunct Redevelopment Agency (City Council) spent millions of dollars over the last 20 years acquiring private properties adjacent to the Coliseum. The purpose for that major expenditure of public money was always to build at least one and maybe two new regional sports facilities. Now, the citizens are supposed to forget about those millions of dollars and support a new site (Laney) that requires starting all over. Not to mention the obvious traffic, environmental and economic impacts on sensitive wetlands and one of Oaklands economically challenged ethnic neighborhoods. To walk away from the Coliseum at this point is the ultimate example of fiscal irresponsibility by public officials.

Re: “New Ballpark Could Devastate Lake Merritt's Birds

The As are no longer a community team. They are a sports entertainment corporation willing to destroy Oakland's downtown community and Lake Merritt for the almighty dollar. I'd rather say goodbye to them than to the wildlife at Lake Merritt, which is the crowning jewel for Oakland. The A's stadium if built nearby will definitely kill our Lake, its birds and the wildlife there. In addition, low income communities of color will be displaced again because of the changes the new construction will bring.

The As shipped in non Oakland fans from other cities to claim their stake for the stadium at the Peralta Board meeting this Fall. Then this week their propaganda team at the Oakland Chamber of Commerce claimed 62% of Oakland voters support the stadium. I wonder who they actually surveyed? Definitely not the residents who live in the area.

No,this stadium will be a big black eye for Oakland. I'd rather say bye to the A's than to the birds and Mother Nature in our City. All the billions of dollars the A's project will come in for Oakland in a decade is simply cold, hard cash without a soul for those wanting a piece of the pie. It won't even help those people who will get displaced, including the birds and lives inside the Lake. If Lake Merritt is destroyed in the process due to the A's stadium, Oakland will not be the winner here at all.

Re: “Alameda's Boichik Bagels is a Game-Changer

Good luck Emily. I ran a cottage food biz for a couple years in Santa Rosa, not just bagels but a variety of Jewish style breads, challah, rye (with sourdough), bialys, bagels, challah, babka. Its hard making a profit because the basic expenses of water and energy run high, so you need high volume, hard to accomplish if youre the sole baker. Youll have delivery expenses too, just gas alone. Finding clients who will pay the premium price if $3@ for a small bagel will be a challenge. All the best of luck to you!

Re: “The Mythical End of the Black-Market Farmer

The growers in my Richmond buildings are struggling to survive the recent collapse in wholesale pot prices. Last year $3,000 per pound, today $1,200 if they can sell at all. Three major illegal grows are being shut down this week. I lowered the rent for the last remaining grow we rent to. It is interesting to note that while wholesale prices have collapsed the retail price remains unchanged at $4,800 per lb. Licensed dispensary margins are now nearing 200% profit.
