My S/S is tied to inflation and in 2016 I got 1% adjustment, in 2017 I got 0% and for 2018 2%. So where is Felipe getting his numbers from.

Re: “The Albany Cross Resurrects Memories of the KKK

This article is one error after another. There is no evidence the Lions Club owns the cross. They definitely do not own the land on which the cross sits; the easement only granted access for maintenance. The electrical service was disconnected because it was attached to a tree, which it used as a pole, not because it ran through a tree. The City Council unanimously declared that the cross should go in a February 2016 council meeting; this was not the sentiment of "several officials." Larry Hicok, Coordinator, East Bay Atheists

When will the produce industry be held to these standards?

...not to mention London's support of James Jeffries, the so called "great white hope," to defeat Jack Johnson in 1910.

Re: “Getting Rich Off Low-Income Housing

OK, questions not answered and seemingly not asked (what else is new with this writer?): How long has this been going on? What steps has the city taken in that time? This development didn't fall into this state is a few days or weeks. What city agency fell down on the job? Has the city contacted the state? Non-profits (and not for profits) ARE regulated at the state level. I noticed a local church is affiliated with this non-profit; Is this the reason the city hasn't taken action?

The fact that owner of the construction companies(s) lives a luxurious life is NOT really relevant to the on-going operation and management of the facility... Especially given that, per the article, he has no apparently active role with the organization.

More fire fanning, half written tripe from an "award winning" writer.

It was highly derivative of Frederick Wiseman's 1970 documentary Hospital. Nicks is a filmmaker in search of a raison d'etre.

Lo Ba Png. Not Lou ru fan. More Taiwanese authenticity if calling it by its Taiwanese name and not Mandarin Chinese one.

But any citizen acting in the same fashion would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Keep wearing your magic badge to get away with crimes regular citizens go to jail for year and year's.

Eat all the vegan donuts and gelato you need to make yourself feel more righteous. It's the sugar that produces the disease-promoting metabolic syndrome. Heart attack potential is identical vegan or non-vegan.

Re: “Oakland Police Report: No More Officers Will Face Discipline in Celeste Guap Police Sex Crimes Scandal

Agree with Jim Chanin on what appears to be disparate discipline culture in OPD. If you want to get rid of cover up culture (key tool to preservation of that culture is doing surface, biased, 'make it go away' investigations when the suspect or person being scrutinized is a fellow officer.) do not remedy situation with reflection and chat circles for the offenders. If you have high-ranking officers involved in a 'protect us' culture, the solution is not to promote them, either. Everything Internal Affairs did wrong with initial investigation IA has been doing wrong since before the NSA and since. The refusal to change is defiance of the NSA requirements. Maybe its time to put OPD in receivership----or require that IA be staffed with investigative personnel who are not members of OPD. Bad culture and effective career immunity is not fixed by more promises to change, tweaking internal procedures and policies. As the current OPD Chief has said....bad culture trumps good policy every time. So how about some accountability and real change, for a change.....

In essence, the command staff was told to go to their room and think about what they have done.

Yes, keep arguing amongst yourselves about who the Oath Keepers are and ignore the people responsible for the state of the country and the economy. Ignore the corrupt government officials not held accountable, ignore the legislators passing laws they are exempt from, ignore the corporations writing our laws to help their profits at the cost of our health...

Keep arguing about the color of the bus you are on, while it goes over the cliff...

Re: “Some Oakland Landlords Are Using a Legal Loophole to Exempt Housing from Rent Control

Our property management company, Mann Edge (they also own Friendly Cab taxi co), tried to pull this shit on our ghetto apartment building last year. They are like a bargain basement version of JDW, it sounds like. This whole building is falling apart in so many ways. Any repairs or renewals have been done in the cheapest and shoddiest manner possible. We went to a free legal tenant workshop for info and they explained this ridiculous loophole to us. They told us that the work done to the apartments would have to be pretty major to allow them to do this. I was very nervous. Thank goodness our slumlords were not prepared to spend any actual money on their attempt to exempt the building. We got another notice saying they had cancelled their exemption request. This place has bed bugs, for crying out loud (not my apartment, thankfully!)
