Re: “The Hideaway's Generic Bar Food

"...and it's same old same old whiteness. ..."

Way to stay obsessed with the color of people's skin in a completely unrelated and irrelevant context! Next time I see any non-white person eating a burger I will dutifully snatch it out of their hands and remind them of its colonial empire symbolism!

Re: “Yummy Grill Brings Afghan Cuisine to Fruitvale

Good to know I dont have to haul myself over the bridge to get Afghan food. All the dishes described sound delicious, but Im surprised there was no mention of the use of pumpkin. Nice to know if you arent excited about the ambience you can opt for takeout or delivery.

Re: “Huangcheng Noodle House and the $30,000 Chili Sauce

Just tried the pork noodles with the pickled mustard greens, what a yumfest. I like the chewy texture of the noodles. The serving size was so large I took almost half of it home. I will return for these noodles.

Re: “Casting a Wide Net Over the Mediterranean

Ive been hoping to find a place in the Bay Area that serves up grilled octopus like I had in Spain. Looks like this place might fit the bill.

@ Chewy @zoey rothenberg total of 3 comments each and they are all shilling for Ms. Hamilton? Good lord, if she got/gets the job it won't be because of you blowing her in the comment section.

Re: “Tri-Tip & Turkey Tails at World Champion Smokehouse

The best sauce in Oakland (E&J second best)... reminiscent of Flint's. The meat is nothing spectacular... good but not spectacular... but I drive from Richmond and buy a container from a dollar store just to buy a pint of sauce to accompany (on the side) my own smoked BBQ.

If I could put my experience at Farmhouse to words, this review would be it. I can still feel the spice of the prawns.

I loved this place. The links in particular are amazing even after a few days in the fridge!

Re: “The Hideaway's Generic Bar Food

I liked the harshness, although I think Barney's really sucks, so I'd be more harsh. But, the reality is that we don't need any more of these types of places anywhere. It's boring, it's unhealthy, and it's same old same old whiteness. So, thanks.

Re: “The Hideaway's Generic Bar Food

Definitely a review that is more harsh than seen in the past. The writers usually strive to be very balanced - naming the good and the not so good. In the quest for balance, however, you can end up with a distorted review that does not tell you if the place is actually "worth visiting, stay away, or you must go."

Rather than harsh, maybe this one should be viewed as just plain honest and straightforward. I know I am not going to try it. The biggest miss to me is the author seems to hold Barney's up as some sort of great standard one should strive to reach. I don't think so - Barney's is just OK. So, this place must be really bad! And, the implied Barney's endorsement is not a confidence builder in reviewer judgement.

Reviews here have never been up to snuff since Luke left. I no longer look at them to seek and rely upon the opinion as much as I am just interested in what is new in the area.

I will be interested in future reviews from this author to see how he treats a place he think is good or great (assuming that is possible). That will be telling.

Re: “The Hideaway's Generic Bar Food

Boring food, overpriced drinks, total lack of kindness from servers who looked like they all wanted to be else - anywhere but the Hideaway - reminds me of the baseball nostrum: Three strikes and you're out. Goodbye!
