Re: “Flint’s BBQ Is Coming Back to the Town

Back in the 90s, I was blessed to have lived on Alcatraz, around the corner from Flint's North Oakland take out. Often the heavenly scent of brisket being lovingly barbecued would waft through my window. Glad to see them back! Now if they would only open up a new location near the Lake...

Re: “Opinion: Why Building Housing Near Mass Transit Promotes Collectivism

Interesting, when did the desire to have a bit of breathing room become "capitalistic" ? and why is it better to live in confined spaces with others, forced to travel on buses and subways ? Clearly "extreme individualism" is bad in the author's view, is it better to be reliant on government and society ? where has that sort of reliance ever worked to the advantage of humans ?

Re: “Santa Rita Inmate Suffocated From Restraints Used by Deputies

I was housed there with Juan (may Allah bless his spirit) and there needs to be a thorough investigation into the Santa Rita jail. From the scorching hot infamous BEANS and "meat sauce" that we're expected to scarf down and accept the painful burns from the overcooking the dinner trays endured. The month it takes to see a nurse for even psychological issues. The misclassification of inmates who have psych problems and end up housed with gp and ultimate pose a threat to the rest of the population is becoming more and more of a potentially dangerous issue. Santa Rita is in violation of numerous laws and rules and unfortunately there are multiple situations that fall under the same category as that of my friend Dejuan Armstrong. Santa Rita sheriff's office and medical staff are unscrupulous in their tactics and don't mind forging documents to benefit their motives however so it be in their best interest. If possible I'd like to be able to make known to the public what is most oftentimes muted outside of the walls of the institution. I can be contacted @ (510)707-9371 Tyrone D. Mollett

Re: “That Old Gas Stove Is Not Your Friend

Also, I think the city of Berkeley should look into the feasibility of banning the release of intestinal gas. Perhaps a bond issue could be floated to provide public dispensaries for Bean-O or similar products.

It's worth looking into!

Re: “That Old Gas Stove Is Not Your Friend

I dunno, but I like cooking with gas. Makes better food for reasons known only to those who actually cook I guess. Readers of this rag must dine out or order in a lot. Judging from the content and ads.

Why not ban SUVs? Going to much smaller cars and bicycles makes more sense to me than messing with the environmental damage caused by my woking and baking.

Re: “Disappeared in Death

Wow so sad to hear this. Josh was one of the first people I met when I move to America from England. He had a home but never wanted to meet cerfew and some what felt issolated as there was a new little brother. Hed walk thestreet where I used to live on little Paige in Fredericksburg. He was not healthy in his mind but wanted more to he clean. We somewhat dated hung out for a bit but realized I couldn't help like I wanted to. Iv heard Asad story from friends into what really happened and why he had a gun. Josh was harmless. A sweetheart. He was a good kid. Then ell of a sudden he stopped showing up, walking down my street and i never saw him again. That was in 2004.
REST UR SOUL in PEACE now Josh yourfinally at
Love you Josh. Wished u stuck around.

Re: “This Is Not An Emergency — It's Just Oakland 911

The City government under two different Mayors and multiple City Administrators on several occasions have promised us vast improvements in 911 call answering time (not response time). They alternate excuses between not having the money to replace their systems and not being able to hire dispatchers.

Just because there has been civic amnesia from the massive dismantling of local journalism, multiple City Auditors who ignore it, and a vast turnover of residents, don't let the City officials act like this something new.

Re: “This Is Not An Emergency — It's Just Oakland 911

Actually, TDD access to 911 services is mandated by federal law. The mandate was demanded by deaf/hard of hearing advocates. So it's not a "choice" on the part of the city. It's an absolute requirement. Given the costs associated with provisioning SMS access (and a complete redesign/rebuild of the 911 call center to accommodate it) and lack of funds in Oakland, it's not surprising that SMS isn't supported here (or much of anyplace else for that matter).

I need to point out, the answering system that Dr Heilicser claimed is "unheard of", isn't some "Rube Goldberg", home brew invention "thunk up in Oakland" but a system commercially provisioned by a service equipment provider. That statement is disingenuous at best if he has really been working with 911 systems for 35 years and show that yet again EBX fails miserably at fact checking.

While having the latest technology in emergency services is a wonder thought, so are unicorns, elves, and small fuzzy animals for all... And not very practical.

Until EVERYONE pays their fair share (taxes), there just isn't money for all of the neat thing we want. I don't know of anyone who works for free; Doesn't want a decent wage.

Re: “Flint’s BBQ Is Coming Back to the Town

I used to work swing shift at Rolls-Royce in Oakland and one day I picked up my lunch from Flints in Berkeley. When I got to work. Day shift was mad at me cause all they could smell was the BBQ it had the whole shop smelling like BBQ from one dinner. Some of my co-workers threatened me and told me if I ever was going to Flints to call them so I could bring them a dinner.

Re: “The Next Generation of Cell Towers Has a Next Generation of Deregulation

...And there is the battle cry of the entrenched, entitled and WILLFULLY IGNORANT.

The same "local control" that fed jim crow, feeds no housing, rampant crony politics and the anti-vax contingent.

And EBX beating the drum loudly and long.

Re: “This Is Not An Emergency — It's Just Oakland 911

Thanks Mr. Lazarus for bringing this issue up. Perhaps it could be progressive to bring this service up to a higher standard and the services following Fire, police, EMS, etc. up to a higher standard. Is this an Oakland value? Do we have to live our past of bad service, an Oakland tradition?

Re: “Herpes: To Disclose Or Not

Its a pleasure for me to write this testimony about how i got my Genital Herpes cured a month ago. i have been reading so many comments of some people who were cured from various diseases by Dr. Edes, but i never believed them. I was hurt and depressed, I was too curious and wanted to try Dr.Edes, then i contacted him through his email ( when i contact him, he assured me 100% that he will heal me, i pleaded with him to help me out. My treatment was a great success, he healed me just as he promised. He sent me his medication and ask me to go for check up after 14 days of taking the medication. i agreed with him and i took his medication and went for check up, to my greatest surprise my result was negative after the treatment, i am really happy that i am cured and healthy again. I have waited for 3weeks to be very sure i was completely healed before writing this testimony. I did another blood test one week ago and it was still Herpes negative. so i guess its time i recommend anyone going through Herpes HSV-1 or HSV-2, HIV, HPV, Hepatitis B, Diabetes, Cancer should reach him through his Email OR add him on whatsapp +2348151937428.

Re: “The Next Generation of Cell Towers Has a Next Generation of Deregulation

I agree Camille Sauve. But the Feds and Telecoms can sue the city if they deny applications outside of the FCC rules hemming us all in based on aesthetics. Almost all of the activists I know are working on all fronts - change the Fed Law, fight the FCC rulings, educate on RF health risks, and try and affect what we can on the local ordinance and standards. We would love the City of Oakland to join San Jose, Portland and all the other cities and states who are suing the FCC for preemption over local governance.
