Re: “The East Bay's Longest-Running Brunch Spots

Ole's is terrible! The food is much better at Jim's on Lincoln. BUT, the best brunch spot isn't even on this list and I'm not going to ruin it for myself by telling everyone. The lines are too long as it is.

Re: “Are Co-ops the Future of a Sustainable Restaurant Industry?

Co-ops are a great alternative way of doing business, particularly for younger people and single people who don't need a rock-steady income. However, the proponents of co-ops tend to gloss over the fact that the members equally absorb risk as well as reward. In other words, there is the possibility of a delayed or reduced paycheck from time to time as demand drops or fluctuates. For workers who need a reliable income, the top down corporate model still works better. Also, the co-op model is ill suited to certain businesses where some of the workers must put in years of education and work before even starting in business. It doesn't seem fair, for example, to pay the neurosurgeon as much as the neurosurgeon's receptionist.

Re: “The Benefits of Pasture-Raised Meat

I am Mr Adrian Dalsey From USA a DHL worker.
It is no longer news that the Acquired immune deficiency syndrome Herpes Virus is increasing by the day. The fear is that many people living with the sickness are scared of saying it because of the stigma that comes along with it.I am bold enough among many others to state that there is now a potent cure to this sickness but many are unaware of it. I discovered that I was infected with the virus 3 months ago, after a medical check-up. My doctor told me and I was shocked, confused and felt like my world has crumbled. I was dying slowly due to the announcement of my medical practitioner but he assured me that I could leave a normal life if I took my medications (as there was no medically known cure to Herpes). I went from churches to churches but soon found that my case needed urgent attention as I was growing lean due to fear of dying anytime soon. In a bid to look for a lasting solution to my predicament, I sought for solutions from the voodoo world. I went online and searched for every powerful trado-medical practitioner that I could severe, cos I heard that the African Voodoo Priests had a cure to the Herpes syndrome. It was after a little time searching the web that I came across one Dr Felix(A powerful African Voodoo Priest), who offered to help me at a monetary fee. I had to comply as this was my final bus-stop to receiving a perfect healing. My last resolve was to take my life by myself, should this plan fail. At last it worked out well. He gave me some steps to follow and I meticulously carried out all his instructions.
Last month, to be precise, I went back to the hospital to conduct another test and to my amazement, the results showed that " I am NEGATIVE".
You can free yourself of this Herpes virus by consulting this great African Voodoo Priest via this e-mail: idemudiafelix@gmail.com He will help you and his herb medication is cure.
he has the cure on all this disease as he told me and it listed.
GENITAL WARTS/ PREGNANCY. EPILEPSY. GENPILENCIN. HIV AIDS. PREGNANCY DIABETICS STROKE.
EXPANDS OF PENIS BREAST H.P.V TYPE 1 TYPE 2 TYPE 3 AND TYPE 4. TYPE 5. HUMAN PAPAILOMA VIRUS. HERPES. SYPHILIS. CANCER. HEPATITIS A B and C. HIRE BLOOD PRESSURES. AND BODY BOILS. AND BODY DISEASES . THANKS TO YOU ALL FOR YOUR TIME OF READING MY TESTIMONY AND MOST ESPECIALLY YOU Dr Felix I PRAY TO GOD TO NEVER LET ME AND MY FAMILY FORGET YOU IN OUR LIFE.

Re: “The East Bay's Longest-Running Brunch Spots

Good recommendations. La Note, Betty's, and Rick and Ann's are perennial favorites.

I go to Mama's if I feel like being insulted, kind of like Sam Wo used to be.

Re: “Are Co-ops the Future of a Sustainable Restaurant Industry?

There is a long history of economic thinking (and writing) in support of coops in all areas of production. As more efficient, less exploitative and far-more-democratic than our current corporate capitalism which exploits everyone involved other than investors and millionaire/billionaire senior managers.

There are many cooperative businesses in the US which have produced superior products over the long haul. Ever heard of Lincoln welding gear?

Re: “Are Co-ops the Future of a Sustainable Restaurant Industry?

Richard Wolff, a well-known economist, speaks eloquently of what he calls "democracy in the workplace" (aka communal businesses) as a solution to our failed capitalist system. He comes to the Bay Area to speak several times a year and he can be heard at 10 AM Fridays on KPFA's Letters & Politics show. I find his insight into our current economic state quite illuminating, and I particularly like the things he has to say about coops.
