Add Bird & Buffalo to the great deal list. Their $20 lunch is delicious and huge. 6 meaty grilled ribs plus larb gal and two spicy salads. Yummy leftovers await. Big props to the owners who had only been open 4 days when RW started Everything was on point!

Need to change the name. Pain is bread in French, but its pain in English.

Re: “Bird & Buffalo to Bring Thai Soul Food to North Oakland

Is having an ampersand in your business name required for opening in Temescal?

Re: “Small Wonder's Fate Uncertain As Owner Faces Sexual Abuse Charges

I'm very sad; Jason is a shy man who is clearly incredibly creative and talented. I am friends with his wife, who is a wonderful person. While Jason DOES need to own up to his past mistakes, I don't personally sense he is still on that track. People DO grow out of their disfunctions. This is so very sad, but speaks of a widespread cultural violence. Jason is hardly alone. Power trips by males against all those who are weaker and more vulnerable is enshrined in our culture, down to the killing of a living tree for Christmas, killing of animals for meat, human massacres, shooter video games, domestic violence, prostitution, pornography. It goes so deep. It needs to be addressed, but those who can manage to apologise for their mistakes and who are no longer engaging in destructive behavior need to be forgiven. Jason puts a lot of love into what he does; it's a shame to lose his creative contributions. Perhaps the judgement against him should include psychological counseling.

Re: “Nyum Bai Looks to Open Brick-and-Mortar in Oakland's Fruitvale Village

There is a wonderful documentary called DON'T THINK I'VE FORGOTTEN about this golden era of Cambodian rock n roll. Its an excellent film that will let you know what was going on in the music scene before it was brutally suppressed by Pol Pot, et al.

Re: “A Burmese Resurrection: Grocery Cafe Will Get a Second Life in Jack London Square

Had the most wonderful dinner there tonight. Better than the old location. William was a perfect hoist, explaining details about the cooking and spices and telling us about the food tour he hosts to Burma in the summer---eating and cooking.

Had an incredible dinner tonight and William was the most gracious host explaining everything and telling stories. He hosts a food tour on Burma, eating and cooking in the summer. We want to go.

Bestest wishes to you and your family, Jena! This was hard to read but not nearly as hard as for you to act. Always a friendly spot, except when those jerks cut in line that one day. :]

This makes me so sad! My go to spot when I worked at the Temescal Library. Loved their mac and cheese and grilled cheese and tomato soup.

Re: “Watch Oakland Chefs Tanya Holland and Tu David Phu Compete on Top Chef

EB Pride Most chefs are this way as I have had the displeasure of working alongside the ever charming and talented Tu David Phu and find him to be very similiar as your comments. I think most chefs are horrible and mean behind closed doors. It is simply the nature of the game and their egos so suck it up and move on. They are on the show because of their cooking talents and if you think they are the first chefs competing on the show because someone does not like them you should watch The Kardashians

Im always suspicious of commenters who try to take people down instead of building people up...

Re: “Watch Oakland Chefs Tanya Holland and Tu David Phu Compete on Top Chef

Wow. Pretty harsh. Way better ways to convey your thoughts I suspect. Ive had my gripes with BSK (all service related) since they took over the space from a Jamaican themed joint that never took off, but the food remains solid. Ive been in W. Oak Town for 35 years. This was and remains a breath of fresh air.
