Re: “Town Business: Regulating Tenant Move Out Agreements, and a New Library Parcel Tax Proposed

Alphie, I don't like parcel taxes either (for a different reason than you -- because they aren't proportional to property value), but if this were a sales tax proposal, someone else out there would be saying "I'd vote for this if only it were a property tax..."

My view is that if you support what the money will be used for, you should probably support the tax even if it isn't raised in exactly the way you prefer. (Not just you specifically, everyone.) Otherwise services starve while we wait for an impossible level of agreement. And I, for one, hella support our libraries.

Re: “Town Business: Regulating Tenant Move Out Agreements, and a New Library Parcel Tax Proposed

Measure Q
Library Parcel Tax Extension was passed and lasts until 2024 - OAKLAND WHAT ARE you doing with the money? I would say we have clearly taxation with VERY poor representation.

Re: “Town Business: Regulating Tenant Move Out Agreements, and a New Library Parcel Tax Proposed

So once again the city mismanages it's funds for these ineffective BS pet projects to their buddies and then states services like the library need additional funds. Oakland already has high property taxes and yet we STILL don't get basic reliable services from the city.

No more taxes!!

Re: “Town Business: Regulating Tenant Move Out Agreements, and a New Library Parcel Tax Proposed

I would not be in favor of a parcel tax because yet again the property owners in Oakland are being asked to subsidize the local services that are used by all residents. I would be in favor of a sales tax increase to support public libraries, that way all residents who do business in Oakland would contribute to the social services.

Re: “Friday’s Briefing: Trump to Open California Coast to Oil Drilling; Bay Area Companies Fuel Dow Jones Surge Over 25,000

Did anyone catch this argument for why it makes sense to open up our shores to more oil drilling in which one of the politicians supporting it said something along the lines of: 'the revenue will help the environment.' Which was like when they tried to say that 'killing elephants in big game hunts will help generate revenue that can be used to help conservation efforts.' How stupid do you have to be to believe that? That's like saying selling cigarettes will help improve the health of the masses because the revenue can be used to improve medical care. Seriously, do people actually believe this nonsense?

Re: “Monday’s Briefing: California May Become Sanctuary State for Weed; 40% of Bay Area Adults Need a Roommate to Afford Rent

In regards to your first point, I thought California was already like this? I remember when there was a 'rogue cop' working with the feds to help shutdown state approved dispensaries back in the day. I thought we--well, not we cause I don't live in Cali anymore but that's besides the point--already had legislation in place, perhaps not on a state level, maybe just a city level, to prevent our local law enforcement from working against the will of the California residents. I guess not? That's a surprise.

Also, about Trump watching TV and tweeting all day - WHAT IS THAT?! Does this guy not realize he's the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES? That's a pretty big job (I'm underselling it), maybe one that he should focus on. After all, he is effectively governing ALL OF US. Apparently he thinks it's more important to get his cable television time in and send some ridiculous tweets publicly bashing anyone that criticizes him with schoolyard name-calling. Funny how his wife is trying to push some sort of anti online bullying agenda while her husband is perhaps the biggest internet bully of them all lol.

Re: “Sessions' Betrayal

Why would anybody be surprised by any delusional, out of touch, take us back a half century thing a guy named Jefferson Beauregard Sessions would do? He is not only a red neck racist, he is mentally still in an era that produced public health crap like "reefer madness". This guy thinks marijuana is a gateway drug, when every intelligent aware person knows that alcohol or for Sessions "moonshine", is the biggest gateway drug ever created. This guy is a joke, an embarrassment and hopefully old news when convicted of lying to Congress about Trump and his Russian friends. I am thankful every day that I live in California where we have government, both state and local, who seem to be doing everything they can to insulate us from Trump and the clown car full of idiots he brought to Washington.

Re: “Wednesday’s Briefing: Insurance Policies Canceled in Oakland Hills; California Looks at Tax Changes in Response to Trump Overhaul

I have tremendous experience as an insurance agent placing coverage for homeowners that are located in fire risk areas and this is one of my specialties.

I am the founder of the CA Fire Insurance Team at https://www.getfireinsurance.com and I am interested in getting my agency in front of these homeowners that need help getting coverage at affordable prices.

I noticed in your article you mentioned some of the areas that are considered very high fire risk by many insurance companies.

Im hoping by reaching out to you I can also find out more about the areas specifically that are being affected by non-renewals, cancellations or denials of coverage so that they know Im here to help.

Feel free to contact me or my agency at info@trailheadins.com.

Re: “Breaking: Berkeley's KPFA Radio Facing Ruin as New York Real Estate Corporation Considers Seizing Station's Assets to Settle Lawsuit

KPFA Listener Sponsored Radio has been a part of my life since the sixties. I do not want to see it's demise. It appear that hubris and ineptitude are hugely behind this fiasco, as well as cronyism. The bankruptcy ought to have filed some time back; a hue and cry ought to have been broadcast sometime if not years back! What makes Pacifica a separate entity? It has been working as if it is and has no responsibility to KPFA and the other stations it has under its domain. Had attention been brought to this emergency some time back in the form of asking wealthy personality donors who support Pacifica we may have had a chance to pull out of this mess. There are plenty of wealthy entities and/or individual people who may have made a loan to Pacifica who
needed to have been approached. Including creating a marathon fund raising!

Re: “Breaking: Berkeley's KPFA Radio Facing Ruin as New York Real Estate Corporation Considers Seizing Station's Assets to Settle Lawsuit

I have to sit out some of the info-war at this point, having tried to provide clarity in the face of propaganda for many years and needing a rest. I will say the statement in this article that the reasons for the crisis have "nothing to do with KPFA" is wrong and is a prime example of the kind of purposefully slanted propaganda that have actively helped to cause this crisis. KPFA has not lived within its own means for years, http://www.unitedforcommunityradio.org/?p=3064 and as this crisis worsens, there is unfortunately every reason to think that those who actively discouraged listeners from understanding the true issues at the station for years will now have free reign (as they certainly do have their own organized backers, broken away from the network) to continue to bamboozle listeners who believe that Russia "hacked," that the U.S. isn't massively responsible for the middle east disasters (and hence for much of global climate damage) etc. Of course the partisan boards are terrible, but there has been, thanks to the confusion of the name-usurping "save kpfa" gang, no way for most listeners to have heard about the different points of view or real issues over the years to vote in responsible board members. Every board election has been actively "hacked" if you want to call it that, and that is some real hacking you are not going to hear about by the paid morning gang at KPFA. Sure they will titrate in some well-presented stories, and therefore the promotion of their not-too-left of the conservative wing of the Democratic Party point of view will thrive i the new non-Pacifica KPFA. Re: “Breaking: Berkeley's KPFA Radio Facing Ruin as New York Real Estate Corporation Considers Seizing Station's Assets to Settle Lawsuit

>The loss of KPFA would NOT be a big deal. it barely does anything in terms of undermining the power elite.

Often when I tune I hear Professor Richard D. Wolff (Marxist economist) or Doug Henwood (leftist journalist) or Davey D Cook. They're not mainstream. They often point at the forces of modern capitalism to be to blame for many of society's ills. So I don't know what you're talking about.

I could do without some of the herbalism shows.

> It's a CIA arm.

KPFA is not a CIA arm, FRANK SNAPP I would appreciate no longer spreading such specious claims on this forum. You're not helpful.

You may not like KPFA, but KPFA is about as alternative as we have at the moment in the media.

Re: “Breaking: Berkeley's KPFA Radio Facing Ruin as New York Real Estate Corporation Considers Seizing Station's Assets to Settle Lawsuit

"KPFA's property" is actually Pacifica's on MLK Way in Berkeley. Empire State could put a lien on it establishing their interest upon sale but they could not "seize the building" or force KPFA staff to quit. Nor could they seize KPFA's broadcast license or others in the network. They could seize KPFA's cash assets, which would make KPFA's utility bills and other basics the biggest challenge to keeping KPFA on the air.

And this is not "this financial mess created by its parent foundation." KPFA representatives served on the national board as this crisis developed and not all of their votes were benign. On the contrary.
