Re: “On the Phenomenon of Burger Boogaloo — and the Oakland Couple Who Makes It Happen

Autocorrect error:
Mr. Ribak, not Mr. Final.
Thanks.

Re: “On the Phenomenon of Burger Boogaloo — and the Oakland Couple Who Makes It Happen

2015 was great, 2016 was an entrance line nightmare. Mr. Final says he has the line thing figured out -- I hope so, but just splitting the VIP and GA doesn't sound like a solution.
by the way, my comments last year -- about standing in line for 2 hours, and then just giving up and giving my tickets away -- wasn't grumbling. It was a customercomplaint, and a plea to the promoter to get it right this year.
Thanks, Kirk Baugh.

Re: “On Garage Rock's Masked Conservatism and Regressive Politics

What a bunch of authoritarian nonsense, the left once an antidote to right wing religion and jingoistic Americanism, now the province of people who have the thinking skill set and personal agency of a Jerry Falwell follower.

This is AM radio and FOX news "war on Christmas" stupid

Re: “On Garage Rock's Masked Conservatism and Regressive Politics

'Garage rock' is conservative insofar as its adherents and practitioners reject most post-70's advances in technology and changes in popular culture. It is no more inherently 'politically conservative' than any other style of music. John Lydon likes Donald Trump; Mo Tucker is a Tea Partier; Johnny Ramone was a rock-ribbed Republican, yet we would not and should not condemn punk rock or the New York experimental music scene of the late 1960s because people with 'regressive politics' were 'allowed' to participate.

Re: “Burger After Parties!

Eli's used to be Home of the West Coast Blues. Now it's this? My Town is gone, been gone... I'm just in denial. Thinking anything can be done about any of it...
Oh well. Have fun, white kids.

Re: “Shayla Jamerson is So Oakland

Thank You Shayla for making a difference.
Although, I'm not a native of Oakland, but I'm a black lady from Chicago living in the Bay Area. I had the pleasure of attending "SoOakland"this past weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you for your vision and continued Blessings on your Journey!!

Re: “Mills College’s Plan to Ax Jazz Legend Roscoe Mitchell Draws International Outrage

The extent to which this is bullshit by default puts everything legitimate about Mills into deep questioning. Roscoe Mitchell is everything that the Darius Milhaud Professorship is FOR. Jesus.

Re: “Oakland’s Eastlake Music Festival at Lake Merritt

Loved that last paragraph, and thank you for all of your articles about events in The Town.

Re: “Oakland’s Eastlake Music Festival at Lake Merritt

Yikes, judgement much?! I'm a proud Oakland resident but the comment about Dolores Park is an example of exactly what Oakland has to put up with constantly form outsiders. Stupid generalizations and bias. Just. Stop.

Agreed inappropriate comment.

Re: “Oakland’s Eastlake Music Festival at Lake Merritt

This juvenile, divisive paragraph makes me want to skip Oakland's festival and drive over the bridge to Dolores, where people can hang out without pretentious journalists judging their identity.

Re: “Oakland’s Eastlake Music Festival at Lake Merritt

Agreed. Two reminders in one paragraph that your beloved city is going to shit. Thanks, Ebx.

Re: “Oakland’s Eastlake Music Festival at Lake Merritt

Tacky toss off remark about Dolores Park. Detracts from the story. Ugh.

Re: “The Berkeley Bluegrass Festival Returns To Freight & Salvage

Correction:
Tessa Schwartz (not Tracy Schwartz) is the name of the fiddler in 35 Year of Trouble. Helen Lude (not Lundee) is the multi-instrumentalist in the same band.

Re: “Oakland’s Soul and Funk DJ Nights Now Rival Those In San Francisco

Good start in introducing and highlighting the vinyl scene in Oakland. However, this piece comes off as a list of the different nights with no actual substance as to what the atmosphere is like at these events. Where are the photos that highlight the real heroes of these events, the supporters who come and dance, the DJs who pour their hearts and souls into keeping this music relevant, the photographers who capture the true essence of what it is to be at one of these nights? The whole scene deserves more attention than a simple article that tries to capture the feeling of these nights, but fails in doing so by simply listing the events and the few folks that are behind them. This scene deserves more than a quick blurb. A lot more could have been said about this scene to truly highlight the movement that is currently happening.

If Radiohead is as revolutionary as they claim to be, why is it cool to charge $100 for the show?
