Hey, lets have the same laws for imigration as mexico, or would that be to racist, wait a minute only white people can be racist. Why do you think Mexico has such strict imigration laws? and why do you think they don't care if mexicans come here illigally? could it be that they like the money that they get from the people here? do you really think that mexico cares about thire people haveing a better life, come on now wise up, it's about the money. what about the people that come here legally are they stupid? should they just break the law and quit standing in line and cross the border illigally? why don't you amnesty people ever criticize mexico for it's treament of it's own people, they make a lot of money from oil and tourist but only a few benifite, mexico is as curropt as the mafia, and that is why people come over here to get a better life style, and I can't blame them, but we have laws that must be obayed or else we have anarchy, I think If canada was sending it's non hispanic people here I'm sure you would call for stricter border laws, now who is the racist. I am sick and tired of you liberals always putting down our country as a racist nation, but if we're so bad why do so many people risk thire lives to get here? wake up the world needs more capitalizem not more social programs like you guys on the left want, we can't take care of all the poor people in the world, hospitals in california are closing down for lack of money because people can't pay for services, would you do your job for free? I don't think so wise up mr. mexican.

Re: “Dental Damnation

Hello Will,

I would just like to comment on your article regarding Dr. Donald DeBerry.

Firstly, it is completely legal to have an office within your own residence. Although it may not look like a billion dollar office, he does comply with the proper medical procedures, sanitary codes, and appropriate waste management that is mandatory for all health offices. It's a legal office.

Secondly, I understand the demand for 5 billion dollars and allegations of a terrorist attack may seem completely absurd. However, you shouldn't always be so quick to judge from what you hear from peeking neighbors and the media looking for an eye-catching story. Those letters were written by his mentally ill wife. She began developing signs of Hunnington's disease for the past twenty years now, and her condition appeared to get worse and worse. It's a shame that he didn't lock his wife of 30+ years in the looney bin sooner so she wouldn't scare off his patients. (note the sarcasm)

It is a shame however that patients had to witness her "crazy" ways and report back condemning his whole practice. It is a shame that his office doesn't look like a million dollar office because he spends most of his earnings on paying for medical bills for Charlotte and keeping her in a prestigious nursing home that caters to her specific disease. It is a shame that he is such a kind man, who will gladly sit down and talk to you and explain the procedures he will be doing and why, and may i add, who is a fantastic and well-qualified dentist, gets such a bad rep because of huge misunderstandings and pitfalls he has experienced in his life.... Give him a break. Don't judge a good guy and his office until you know your facts and/or actually met him.

Oh, one more thing... he doesn't have cataracts anymore, and he reorganized his house as much as he can with the limited funds he uses for himself.

I don't know if you are planning on posting comments, but I would greatly appreciate it if you did! He really is a qualified dentist whose name doesn't deserve to be beat down. Thanks!

Re: “The Mexican Rosa Parks

The mexican Rosa Parks???? Someone has been smoking to much peyote as they smuggle it across the border. I say give the smugglers that smuggle drugs across the border sancuary too. They are poor victims of unjust laws that prevent them from conducting their trade. This woman KNEW it was illegal when she came to the United States and had her anchor baby. She new it was illegal when she used a stolen social security card to work illegally in the United States. NOW she wants to claim she is a victim. Ridiculous!!!! Further, if churches want to interject themselves into the political debate then treat them as a political entity and TAX them like the political animal they wish to be. Remove tax exempt status for churches that wish to politic as opposed to simply observe their religion. Better yet indict the church authorities for aiding and abetting.

Re: “The Mexican Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks NO WAY! Most Mexicans have native American DNA to a large part. They own this land it was taken from them and what we have here is American Apartheid KKK nation trying to steal from and deny the natives their land. Yes they are illegal aliens to Euro-Americans but what makes Euro-Americans legal in this country in the first place? because they stole the red man's land and built it up with African slaves? Hooray for the return of the Redman to the continent that is rightfully theirs. My message to white folks that dont like the redman reclaiming their native soil. "put up or ship the Ef back to slovenia"

Re: “The Mexican Rosa Parks

Vero: if you want people to respect other races, start with YOURSELF. Cut the crap about "white trash", and stop blaming the white folks for all the problems that have befallen Mexico. The corruption, brutality, and total lack of respect for education, human rights, and private property is a cultural trait of the Mexican political system, not the fault of the gringos up here...

Re: “The Mexican Rosa Parks

Frist of all i do not start off by saying "Dear Anglo" (what the hell is up with that?). People need to start respecting other races. Do you sit down and think when the Anglos came in and Massacred the Native Americans or when they brought in the African Americans and turn them into slaves and not to say the least took and stole México’s land from the Mexicans? Think about it before you open your white trash mouth!(i am sure you don't like it when people say that, do you?)

Re: “Give Cal Plan the Ax

"Felde claims the retrofit would be financed solely by alumni contributions and ticket sales, but make no mistake: Sooner or later you'll pay for this." So, Chris Thompson, if in the event of a major earthquake during a game in an un-retrofitted Memorial Stadium, I sustain major injuries, I can count on you to pay my medical fees?

Re: “Give Cal Plan the Ax

Refusing to move a college football team out of the city to a professional stadium makes complete sense to fans of college football. The writer points out that playing so far from campus "works for UCLA" but ignores that UCLA consistently fails to fill its stadium, averaging less than 70,000 in attendance in a 90,000 seat facility. This makes UCLA by far the worst school in the Pac-10 at filling their stadium. An on-campus facility is truly the only way to be sure to have a full house with full student participation and integration of the student body into the fans. A quick look at the major successful teams that play off campus (University of Miami and UCLA) makes that clear. The real question is why the city should be fighting so hard against allowing the school to spend its own money upgrading its facilities as to remain competitive for the athletes and safe for the fans? While the stadium will never be luxurious on the level of McAfee Coliseum, it doesn't need to be and would probably be worse for it. What it needs are adequate restroom facilities, new benches (some of them are broken, after all), and other upgrades that are by no means luxurious, but definitely increase the comfort of the stadium and access of all fans who wish to come.

Re: “Give Cal Plan the Ax

I've been following the plans for improving the sports facilities and upgrading the stadium since the plan came out and this has to be the stupidest idea I've read on this yet. I have football season tickets to Cal, but there's no way I would get tickets if the games weren't in Berkeley. Half the fun of going to the game is walking through campus, visiting old hangouts, and letting the memories flow back. The attendance would drop in half in one season and probably trickle down from there as people realize what a letdown the colliseum experience is. The only thing this idea is good for is as a threat to make the Berkeley city council pee their pants over the business they'd lose on football weekends. Sheesh

Boy this sure is a thoroughly researched article...

Re: “Give Cal Plan the Ax

I tend to agree with the person who mocked the people who moved next door to a football stadium and then expressed dismay that football games are played there. Go Bears! Go Renovation! If this renovation were shut down I honestly don't know that I would ever return to the city of Berkeley to spend any of my tourist money there.

Re: “Give Cal Plan the Ax

It is too bad that the "tree people" spout their nonsense and if it gets repeated enough people actually take it as the truth. Read the official reports and the studies. The new stadium plan is in the best interest of the responsible, productive members of society such as students, athletes, alumni, fans and employees of the school. It's about time these rent-a-mob folks move along and find some other protest-du-jour to spend their seemingly endless free time protesting. Progress and safety are good things.

Re: “Give Cal Plan the Ax

From Sandy Barbour: and well said indeed!! Unfortunately, many of these important changes and proposals have been lost in media coverage that has focused on a few people in the trees at the expense of the factual forest. That, in turn, is why we will be making a concerted effort during the summer to take our case to directly to the public, civic leaders and local elected officials. The need for informed debate is ill-served by misinformation. Oak trees planted by the university in 1923 cannot be considered an “ancient grove.” A building site that is clear of active fault lines cannot be labeled as unsafe. A center that will serve the pressing needs of 13 intercollegiate teams cannot be described as benefiting a single sport. well said. Take that, Bates and Hancock swine. Go Bears!!

Re: “Anybody Seen Hizzoner?

The election was a year ago. A year! It's as though the Dellums folks literally did nothing prior to inauguration day to prepare to govern. Passing it off on scared City staff and the empty office supply cabinet Jerry left behind is an absurd excuse. Also: while Dellums' staff may in fact include some bright lights, one gets the sense that they too suffer from a lack of direction. With Ron himself rarely on site, there's a vacuum on nearly every issue, where nothing happens until a wave or two of interstaff jujitsu has run its course...if then.

Re: “Anybody Seen Hizzoner?

Snap! Also, the police reorg was drawn up by a consultant Brown hired as a parting gift for Dellums. Great article, though - it's nice to read more than one perspective on local politics.

I was just bike riding the other day, by a local river. The mexicans were lined up with their families (4-5 unsupervised children mind you) catching dirty river fish for dinner I assume. The kids were running everywhere, in the way of the cyclists. The scary part was that when they ran into you, it was as if the "light" wasn't on. I do question the intellengence factor with certain ethnic groups. Common sense just doesn't seem prevalent. This is something that people just catch on to, and if those their candles aren't burning too bright to begin with, no amount of education or information will change these folks anytime soon, very sad.

Why do Mexican women have so many children when they aren't even in the country legally, speak no English - despite having lived here several years - have no steady income, no education and no skills besides being able to clean a house not-very-well I might add. I volunteer at an LA hospital and was stunned at women who come in and have a baby, then their "partner/husband/whatever" comes to pick them up with 3 of their other children who are usually all under the age of 4. I literally didn't even know this type of breeding was mathematically possible. From a strictly human rights point of view, I consider this child abuse. They live in the worst, most gang-infested parts of town and their children are usually filthy. Say what you want about being poor because their Mexican and we're all just "so damn racist" but what brain-failure told them they'd get richer having more children?????????? And no, I do NOT see this happening with any other ethnic group. We get a fair amount of Chinese, lots of Russians, and I have no idea if they're here legally or not. Our "clientele" also includes a substantial amount of African-Americans. But the pregnant patients are overwhelmingly hispanic, almost none of whom speak a word of English. How do you have a 4 year old American citizen-child and not learn a word of English in the 4 years since you gave birth to him???? None of those American citizen kids speak any English either - there's another billion in bi-lingual services California will spend over the next 10 years. What the hell is it with Mexicans that they do stupid crap like this over and over and over?????
