Re: “New Oakland Police Sexual Misconduct Case Leads to Discovery of Drugs Stashed in Locker

"The administration buildings basement includes a shooting practice range, which is used as a virtual gun-and-weapons simulator, and also features several other rooms." You know what else is in the basement? The Evidence room. This is shoddy reporting with a click-bait headline, and no real details. Find a real story to report instead of looking for anything malicious to say about OPD. Not everything is a scandal, people. Go read some actual, verifiably factual news.

Re: “Naming Names: These Officers Are Responsible for the Failed Oakland Police Sex Scandal Investigation

Some of these lawyers representing the Criminal Element and Those Who Feel They Have Been Treated Unethically By The Police might as well be getting bi-weekly checks from the City of Oakland. Shouldn't the City Attorney fight a few,of these cases out in court? Shouldn't roll over with public money at stake.

Re: “Naming Names: These Officers Are Responsible for the Failed Oakland Police Sex Scandal Investigation

The OPD is a gang of useless criminal thugs leeching off the taxpayers, refusing to show up for anything short of murder, worst solve rate in the country. Nobody even bothers to call the cops anymore.

Fire and prosecute bad cops, lower their bloated pay (inexplicably these yahoos make more than most cops in the Bay Area), get rid of the overtime they use to play six-figure meter maid, demand 50% or more of their resources go to investigating crimes instead of writing traffic tickets, and bring them to heel. We're sick of this legally-sanctioned street gang run amok.

Re: “Oakland City Council Passes Divisive Proposal to Establish Violence Prevention Department

The comments here explain why such a common-sense move would seem "divisive." Shame, judgement and fear of minorities "taking" from middle-class whites drives the cycle of hatred. An ounce of prevention is worth a (at least) pound of cure, and not enough has been done to build the safety net of girls who are being sucked into sexual slavery or boys who are vulnerable to the peer pressures of violence. Coordinated and sustained efforts are needed to create safety for all. I have high hopes for this project and applaud the city council and the people. We can change the dynamics of bullying.

Re: “City Told Developers to Fix Infamous West Oakland Artist Warehouse. Instead, They Demolished It.

1919 Market, Oakland: A quick recap -- After years (decades?) of neglect both by the previous owners and the residents (possibly out of fear of loss of the space... Ghostship/warehouse anyone?). As a result a change of hands of the property, the residents took to issue to the city and the result was the building was red tagged and an order to fix the issue was ordered. Because it was red tagged, they were removed. The owners, rather than repair, unexpectedly demolished.

My questions are: What follow through was there after the unauthorized building demolition? What council district did this happen in? What city council member has been silent on this, even at the time? Why? Why no follow through of any kind?

Like it or not, the "disruptive" mindset applies not just to these developers, but to crypto-anarchists of all stripes... "I can do what I want to obtain my goals by any means necessary. Leave it to others to stop me if they can! I have a higher calling!" Witness the budget meeting this week. Hell, taking up residence in an urban building not properly permitted for residence is of the same mindset.

Gang, you really can't play the cards both ways. Either anarchy reins and only the biggest, baddest bullies have the rights they force on us, or we obey the rules. If you get to break the rules and be disruptive, so does they other side... in a never ending escalation.

I think I learned this in kindergarten.... Maybe pre-school. It was a long time ago.

Re: “New Oakland Police Sexual Misconduct Case Leads to Discovery of Drugs Stashed in Locker

I tune into all of them Brian. I just prefer to get my news unbiased, unlike crypto-anarchists...

Tear it all down!!! Rip it out!!! Who cares if there is nothing to replace it.

Until of course you're the one who is in need of protection, then you call on the law and courts (and their physical arm, police)

Oh, Bruce, really? Can't deal with the fact that OPD are as crooked as they come? I'm sure those sources are just making things up! Riiiight. As for verified shootings why not tune into the East Bay Times, they are a daily paper.

OPD needs to be dismantled. Them and Oakland City govt are just

Time for a complete take-over of OPD....breaking the law to or while enforcing the law does not make us safer........

Re: “New Oakland Police Sexual Misconduct Case Leads to Discovery of Drugs Stashed in Locker

Sources?! EBX published this garbage?!

Nothing about the man (verified) found shot outside an Oakland bar on Wednesday? Nothing about the verifiable drive by shooting in East Oakland today?

How about if BG get's out of the dispensary he is clearly spending time in and does some writing?

Re: “Living Downstairs, or Lying?: Advocates Say Oakland Landlords Pretending to Reside in Apartments so as to Evict Tenants

Angel Halo Medina, you are right that mold is a Health code issue and must be taken care of. This does not change the fact that mold abatement is expensive and someone has to pay. In the case of prop 13, however you are wrong. It does not mean low property taxes. Maybe it helped back in the 80's when it was new, but it is a state law that has nothing to do with local ordinances. Every parcel tax and most bonds you vote for raise property taxes. Last year our property tax bill was almost $8000. That did not include the raise that will be applied because of measure KK - $70 per $100k of assessed value means a rise of $700 per year for a million dollar property. So the idea that prop 13 means property taxes are low is the myth. Do your research, better yet, walk a mile in the shoes of a property owner before you judge.

Re: “How Serious is the Wild Fire Threat in the Oakland Hills?

This is not an issue of flats vs. hills (or shouldn't be). My residence almost burned in 1991, and I don't live in the Hills - embers blowing from the east almost took it out.

The Wildfire District 'lost' its reauthorization vote because it was 'only' able to muster 65% of the vote. The requirement for a two-thirds 'super-majority' for tax assessments is absurd, and the State Constitution should be amended to remove it.

Re: “Naming Names: These Officers Are Responsible for the Failed Oakland Police Sex Scandal Investigation

Huge hole in your Reporting!!!
The following passage was cut and pasted directly out of the Swanson report, it clearly states the City Attorney herself knew "In November 2015", yet no where in your reporting do you ask "why didn't Parker tell the DA, Mayor, Monitor, or Administrator in the 6 months? please answer or investigate this key dangling mystery.

Swanson Report
"In November 2015, the City Attorney herself raised concerns with Chief Whent that the alleged officer sexual misconduct regarding Ms. Abuslin might be part of a larger culture of tolerance for sexual misconduct within the Department. Chief Whent disagreed and suggested the larger problem had to do with drinking and rookie recruitment. Despite having this conversation with the City Attorney, Chief Whent still did not inform the Mayor, the City Administrator, or the Monitor of the sexual misconduct allegations."
