Re: “The Posies

Blood/Candy is a wonderful album. Great lyrical twists and turns and lots of unusual moments for a band stuck with the 'power pop' tag for so long. I love the album and have it in heavy rotation in my car. "So Caroline" is a divine creation; absolute pop perfection. That track ALONE is worth the price of the album.

Re: “The Posies

I really hate these 'they did something out of character...shame on them' reviews. We have been a band for over twenty years...and you want us to make the same album over and over again? And since when are weird lyrics and weird sounds and weird time changes not allowed? Uh...Animal Collective? The BEATLES? I mean, seriously, Dave...why are we suddenly the only artists not allowed to grow? If you like your music without surprises, might I suggest some great new artists to check out...tried Katy Perry? #musicnazi

Re: “Eric Benet

From the co-producer,co-writer and co-arranger of "Lost In Time" Eric & I thank you! This CD was certainly a labor of love. Listening back to those great writers and arrangers G & H, Thom Bell. Man! Those guys were excellent. I hope that we've done them proud. It's certainly an honor to be included with them. Thank You Again! We hope that 2011 is the success we hope for.

Re: “Erk Tha Jerk

I was convinced that hip-hop was dead until I began to explore the music of some of the talented local artists in the Bay Area. While Erk may spit some bravado lyrics, he always keeps it down to Earth. He has brought the concept of connecting with the listeners/fans back to rap, using clever words and comparisons; there are no boasts about cars, jewelry and things of such superficial nature. He knows his worth, however remains humble, unlike many of the artists parading around using their celebrity to sell their music. Luckily, Erk has real talent... I can't wait to see how well his album does. He deserves to make it.

Re: “Erk Tha Jerk

Erk Tha Jerk raps about the "real", he reps his hood and he spits with uncommon skill. He does all this well and without apology. Erk deserves to "blow up" if any hip-hop artist does. If you give it a real chance, his music will talk to you and convince you of his worth. If given a true opportunity, let me be the first to say that "Nerd's Eye View" and several songs on it could compete for Grammy recognition!

Re: “The California Honeydrops

I am not sure if your line up has changed. If I may add my two cents. Horns bring the most out in music with that being said I hope you don't lose your identity. Nasamba rocked I hope she is still going to play with you guys. When are you coming to Rhode Island? Would love to see you play live. Thanks for the groove.

Re: “The California Honeydrops

I have to say that this review does not do justice to this awesome album. There are some tracks on here ("When It Was Wrong" & "Same Ol Same Ol") that would have been top 10 hits had they been recorded 40 years ago. Since I got this CD a couple weeks ago it has been on constant rotation in my car. Great job Honeydrops!!!

Re: “David Cross

Wow! It must be easy to do a review on something you didn't actually watch or listen to. Cross does over an hour of comedy on religion and politics.

I know it's your job to review but stop being a hippster who thinks its cool to hate. Next time do your job properly or you might have someone point out to your boss that it's obvious your not doing what your paid to do.

Re: “Mitch Marcus Quintet

nice review, Porto. i can't wait to hear this new record from Mitch & his quintet. Abraham is a total badass. Everyone on this record is great. I love the bit about Mike's epic solos on the surf rocker, Albatross. and i love the title of the record, Countdown to Meltdown! right on, Mitch!!

Re: “Ian Carey Quintet

I happened to visit San Fran a few years back when Ian Carey was playing a weekly gig at the House of Shields with his band. I was very impressed with the their capabilities and quality of music I heard. I just downloaded that free "Contextualizin'" track and it's excellent! Good jazz never goes out of style.

Re: “Eric Bibb

Love love love Eric Bibb, ever since I sat transfixed by "Saucer and Cup" coming over the KPFA airwaves with a voice that was at once familiar and like none I'd ever heard. Love his attitude, his groove, his soul expression, the twists in his songs that challenge me to live a better life, the sun shining through his music like the beautiful version of an alarm clock. The man is just plain brilliant.

Re: “The Mermen

The Mermen are awesome and to really appreciate them, and the wall of sound that crashes down on you like a rouge wave go see them in concert. When you hear the Mermen live it becomes addictive. There is no sound like anywhere in the US or the world. The Mermen are truly a unique San Francisco band. Actually you can hear them live at the Independent on 1/30.

Re: “Maria Muldaur & Her Garden of Joy

Geoff Muldaur, a talented guitarist who was once married to Maria, has a daughter from a later marriage, and she's as talented as all hell. I met her at the Berklee College of Music years ago. Glad to see she's going places.

Re: “Maria Muldaur & Her Garden of Joy

For sure don't agree with her politics but she can damn sure sing.

Re: “Big Star

"With the entirety of the classic debut #1 Record, follow-up Radio City and brilliantly disjointed third project 3rd/Sister Lovers included here..." To be more accurate: all of the songs from the three albums appears on the box set, but only a few of the original album tracks. The box set substitutes alternate mixes and versions for most of the original album tracks, which makes this set valuable to those who already own the original works.
