Re: “Best Alternative Religious Event

Correction: Ecstatic Dance is not an off-shoot of Techno Cosmic Mass, although they do share similar visions. Ecstatic Dance was started on the Big Island by Max Fathom in 2000, who had learned of Gabrielle Roth's 5 Rhythms
and Conscious Dance through Body Choir in Austin, Texas, and successfully merged conscious dance with DJ culture. Donna and Tyler brought Ecstatic Dance from the Big Island to Oakland in 2008, and have combined the best of the SF music culture with the conscious dance scene at the Historic Sweet's Ballroom, rooting it in a solid community of like-minded movers. Re: “Best Public Transportation System, Retired

You might also remember how cheap this system was to ride. However, the system as a whole operated at a loss. Operations were subsidized by real estate interests who financed these transit systems in order to make their developments accessible and desirable, helping them tap into speculative land markets and spurring on the rise of home ownership. Once the East Bay was largely parceled up, developed, and sold , it made little sense to continue these non-profitable transit system, especially at a time when the automobile was becoming the preferred mode of transportation for Americans.

Re: “Best Place to Swim Laps

The Richmond Swim Center is NOT Olympic size!
An Olympic size pool is 50 meters long by 25 meters wide and at least 2 meters deep.
The Richmond facility has ten 25 yard long lanes for organized swimming with a non rectangular zero depth area for recreation.
This pool could use a few type A individuals to run a decently organized lap program for a couple of hours a day. Taking the lane lines out and having folks swim across the deep end with no walls to turn on makes lap swimming a joke here.
Try El Cerrito or Albany.

Re: “11:00 a.m. Sunday: Best On-Premise Selection of Beer in the Bay Area

It's not the Sacramento River, it's Suisun Bay. And thank you for including their hours of operation in your report! It shows great journalistic integrity! Now your readers can travel all the way out there and be surprised that it is closed! What fun!

Re: “Celebrity Favorites: Sports & Leisure

Hi, Don--Is this really you? This is Bev Conant in Fullerton, CA. I was searching for some endpapers for a story that I'm writing and your name popped up. Let me hear from you if you'd like. I'm Small world, isn't it?

Re: “Best Running Club

I've been a member since 2003 when I moved to the East Bay and I love the inclusivity and warm welcome accorded runners, joggers, and walkers of all levels. From teams that regularly win state-wide competitions to Saturday fun-run groups jogging 11 or 12 minute miles, everyone's equal and equally valued. Having once belonged to a club from the opposite extreme, (the elite Santa Monica Track Club) I know the difference and LMJS is the group for me. Quick add-on: we had 35 people run in the SF marathon and half marathons on Sunday -- everyone finished, everyone had fun, and one or two of our members medalled. Now that's cool!

Re: “Best Encounter with Polka Dancers in the Forest

I'm really excited to get on my ledderhosen for the Biergartenfest coming up August 2nd. I've had an amazing time whenever I go there. Great food, music, dancing, and drink.

Re: “Best Cafe to Loiter at All Day Long and Do "Work"

I'm moving to Oakland from SF thanks to Mama Buzz. I only wish Farley's East were as fun as her counterpart.

Re: “Best Inspiration for Active Seniors

I never had Jack as a teacher, but I joined his morning running group at "King Jr. High" way back in the early 70's. He introduced me to the joy of running just for the fun of it. When I went to BHS, the focus of the cross-country team was more on winning than having fun, and I quit the team (but kept running and bicycling on my own).
