Re: “Why Oakland Should Cut Off ICE

Why should foreign nationals be allowed to sneer at our immigration laws and collude with corrupt employers to degrade wages? I applaud ICE for expanding the definition of "human trafficking" to include the vile smugglers described in this article.

Re: “Davis Dysfunction Dooms Raiders Again

There is a law of the universe that says if you live foul and treat people badly, good things will not happen for you. The Raiders descent into oblivion has just begun. The obvious take away from the Patriots game in Mexico City is that the Raiders are not ready in any way to be competitive on Sundays. They do not have the players, the coaching, the attitude or an owner that has a clue. When Al Davis was ruling the roost, we never saw Mark Davis. He was not on the sidelines or in the war room on draft day. He was not in the front or back office learning how to be an owner. The best I can tell is that he was somewhere being a spoiled rich kid indulging in everything else available to him except football. The clearest illustration of how unprepared he is was illustrated at the press conference two years ago when the NFL announced which franchises would go to LA. The Rams executives were wall street polished and prepared. The Rams, not so much, but Mark Davis was just plain embarrassing. He had on a silver and black pinstripe suit that looked like it came from Eastmont Mall in 1977. He then took the mike and insulted every loyal to the death Raider fan in Oakland. He is a clown who is broke, has not respect by other owners and is doomed to fail. The fans of Oakland should be glad that we only have to view the beginning of this tragedy in the next 2 years. If you can't make it in LA with a Super Bowl team (1985), why would you think anybody in Las Vegas would be interested in a doomed losing franchise. The Raiders will never be great until Mark Davis sells the team to somebody who knows what they are doing. Clearly, from top to bottom, he does not. The Patriot franchise is at the top of the league in personnel, coaching, preparation and attitude. The Raiders are arguably near the bottom.

It's a crap film with no redeeming features. Snyder has no business making super hero films. The second half does improve with Whedons hands on the wheel. Overall a complete mess and not worth my money. Rip DC

Re: “Jerry Brown's Cap-and-Trade Program Isn't Working

Californias relentless crusade against emissions has been a very effective camouflage to its relentless need for revenues. The original landmark bill AB32 that was signed into law in 2006 when California was contributing 1% to the worlds greenhouse gases, has been ineffective in reducing Californias contributions to the worlds greenhouse gases. A decade later in 2016, according to the California Energy Commission we still contribute a miniscule1 percent. The cap & trade program that hits the motorists pocketbooks and has had little to no impact on the reduction of global greenhouse gas emissions, but it has successfully extracted more than $7 Billion dollars of revenue from our citizens to fund a multitude of governmental pet projects.

Californias elected officials must be in La La Land when they state that Californias economy is thriving in large part because of its emphasis on enacting sweeping environmental legislation. Californias economy, like the rest of the nation, has been booming ever since the recession, but California is ranking up where the state is NOT proud of. The California go-it-alone crusade to reduce emissions has been very inflationary on the economy. Heres what is really UP in California today:

1) California taxes and cost of living are higher than most other states. 2) Californias energy costs for transportation fuels and electricity continue to be the most expensive in the country. 3) Nearly 25% of Californians 38 million live below the poverty line. 4) California has more than 33% of the nations welfare recipients, 5) California is home to 12% of the nations population, but startlingly 21% of the nations homeless population, 6) The majority of California renters: Nearly 3 million households pay more than 30% of their income toward rent, 7) Roughly 1.5 million households pay more than 50% of their income toward rent, and 8) Unfunded pension liabilities. Our Golden State schools are on track to force substantial budgetary cutbacks on core education spending, as public schools around California are bracing for a crisis driven by skyrocketing worker pension costs that are expected to force districts to divert billions of dollars away from public services.

The green movement is beneficial to reducing emissions, but wind and solar are only able to provide intermittent electricity to the grid, but they are not alternatives to the hydrocarbon products that are driving the airports, military, vehicles and trucks, and are the basis of every component of modern civilizations industries and infrastructures.

Re: “Why Oakland Should Cut Off ICE

Why would you decrease public safety?!
Why would you keep dangerous criminals in our communities?!
When your daughter is sexually assaulted by an illegal immigrant protected by Oakland, then what?!
How much harm has to come directly to you before you stop doing harm to our local communities.
Disgusting Illiberal Propogandist. This is why mainstream media is failing. You people represent the corporate elite. Wake up to the people in your communities.

If you choose to go to Big Sur, please be aware that the traffic footprint has resulted in horrible littering, traffic, and people using nature as an outhouse. It's not much fun to find toilet paper and turds in turnoffs or back in the canyons. Please be considerate.

Re: “Highland Hospital Surveillance Stirs Concerns

Given the huge amount of violent crime in Oakland, and that Highland is where most victims end up, it's a good thing. It helps law enforcement. Something which is anathema to some people.

Thomas Collins "...the people of this country, save the women..."

Good lord man. You do realize you just said "the people of this country, save 51% of the people in this country..." You have exposed yourself to be a fool and someone interested neither in truth, reality, or dissenting opinions. Go back to the 19th century.

Re: “Despite Canceled Hearing, Oakland Councilmembers Still Plan to Talk About Controversial ICE Raid

The hearing had been scheduled on October 12. A month before the Internal Affairs complaint was even filed. The hearing was not about the IA complaint. It was about OPD's actions during the West Oakland ICE raid. Schaaf announced on November 21 that she would support a policy to prevent all future OPD cooperation with HSI or ICE.

Re: “Highland Hospital Surveillance Stirs Concerns

Why just Highland? We don't have a license plate reader scanning every plate and sending them to the Department of Homeland Security in the parking lot at the Alta Bates or Eden Medical Center emergency rooms. Why is that? The rabble has a right to be roused.

Re: “The Return of the Crematorium

Gary Patton, I don't usually agree with you but in this instance it's one hundred percent agreement.

EBX and it's staff have become every bit as bad (and the reporting as poor) as the old Hearst organs. The only thing missing is "Remember the Maine!"

Re: “Highland Hospital Surveillance Stirs Concerns

By the way, from the photo, the LPR appears to be on hospital property. As the article notes, the Hospital put it in. They know about it, just as they know about the officer at the previously mentioned wards (and main entrance) who take an image of all visitors IDs. Interestingly enough, no one collects ID information at check in to the ER... Where people ACTUALLY SEEK TREATMENT.

Oh wait... Are we saying Mike Katz-Lacabe was unaware of that? Or is it just not as emotionally charged? Fact checking much?

Re: “Highland Hospital Surveillance Stirs Concerns

Probably for the same reason that all visitors to the maternity and pediatric wards are ID checked and signed in.

This is true of every hospital I've visited in the past 10 years. It's not unique to Highland.

Yet again DBG and EBX engages in rabel rousing demagoguery.

Re: “The Return of the Crematorium

Did I send for you? Hey. Gary Patton. Thanks for reading both articles and observing the language that was used in which, I don't know if a article and an op-ed that's released on same day could have used your language. It's an universal language, when you live this Injustice you don't have to learn or read about it to write about it. It's speaking truth to power. #EJ4ALL
