Re: “Leavening the Resistance: Reem's Brings Traditional Arab Bakery to Oakland's Fruitvale

Eli Freedman, could not with you more! So sick of their "poor me" crap! They are supposed to be Americans, but they want to stay immigrants so they can complain about their mistreatment! Maybe if they acclimated to their country and denounced terror and their bigotry and lies things would be better for them. What does it say about their mentality when they have a life size mural of a murderer in the wall? They might as well paint a picture of Charles Manson on the other wall!

Re: “Leavening the Resistance: Reem's Brings Traditional Arab Bakery to Oakland's Fruitvale

It didn't take long for the Terrorist sympathizers and their Ilk, to SPIN the story!! You just have to love these POS in justifying the mural!! But its not to be unexpected!! Reem's is located in Oakland, CA. Near Berkeley, U of C....a hotbed of the Radical-Left and their Lap-dogs!!
We complained about the Mural, NOT because Odeh's a TERRORIST, that was CONVICTED of MURDERING Civilians and BRAGGED about it, but because We are "Racists and Islamophobes"!!LOLOL!!! (Yep, that's what they are saying!!)
Continue to go to Reem's page and BLITZ IT!!!
ANY business that displays such a despicable character, a CONVICTED MURDERING TERRORIST, has no place in a civilized society or community in the United States of America.

Re: “Where Vegans and Meat-Eaters Happily Coexist

Great article. My fiance is vegan and I love all food! We just moved to the Bay Area and are excited to check these places out. We cook a lot at home and it is NICE to relax a little and enjoy the passionate cooking style of others. Thanks for the article!

Re: “The Gluten-Free Rush

Chef Nate Barrystein has just taken over managing The Oasis Food Market on Telegraph. Good things and many gluten free halal dishes will be there.

Re: “In Praise of Oakland’s Koreana Plaza

"that part of Tele has those stupid bike lanes so it drags through there"

Amen, preach it! Used to be that you could blow through there at 20 miles above the posted speed limit. Now cars have to sometimes obey the law for a few blocks...it's ridiculous. Now the walk/bike fanatics are trying to extend it to other streets, too:

Re: “Mexican Bartenders in the East Bay Reclaim Tequila

"Paying homage to those who came before them" should include giving credit where credit is deserved. Instead of women in the industry getting praised and acknowledged for their talent and contributions they undervalued and quickly forgotten.

Juana Ojeda worked for Nido for one year as a bartender. She was the one that created the recipe for the Tres Rojas margarita pictured in the article. It has been one of the restaurants top margarita sellers for the last three years.

During her 7 year tenure at Tamarindo as a bartender she was also responsible for creating their Tamarindo margarita recipe. 10 years later it's still on the menu and a crowd favorite.

Re: “Eating Chinatown: A Walkable Guide to Oakland's Most Delicious Neighborhood

No love for Shooting Star Cafe and Pacific Renaissance Plaza's Gum Kuo and the new and improved Cafe 88? Also, Saint Anna's best kept secret is their Hong Kong style sizzling plate steak set dinners which are served all day. They cost much less than what you usually pay at Outback, Texas Roadhouse or Black Angus but twice as good.

Re: “The Anti-Sheep Mentality of Alameda's Mama Papa Lithuania

I've been here a few times and it is consistently good food and service. A top 5 or 10 in Alameda for sure. It is too bad their bakery next door has apparently closed as it was nice too.

Re: “What to Do When ICE Raids Your Restaurant

Hey Vinnie, you just proved my points. Enjoy your day!

Re: “Eating Chinatown: A Walkable Guide to Oakland's Most Delicious Neighborhood

Good going, Luke! It's also worth pointing out that there's good food in Chinatown after midnight -- especially at New Gold Medal and Shooting Star.

And has anyone else noticed (once beyond the stink) how similar durian tastes to marzipan??? Talk about East/West fusion!

Re: “What to Do When ICE Raids Your Restaurant

Hey Rich, what imaginary world are you living in? ICE just shot and killed a man in Chicago the other day. There are numerous reports of ICE enforcing Dump's inane and ridiculous command. Why not do something called an internet search? And why shouldn't citizens or sensible politicians bash the current regime? Dump and his swamp creatures are the source of some of the most disgusting and assbackwards policy changes in US history.

Re: “Eating Chinatown: A Walkable Guide to Oakland's Most Delicious Neighborhood

Luke, you have just broken the seal! I have always wanted to see a comprehensive guide to Oakland Chinatown for both restaurants and the markets. I've been putting a list together myself but I think a project like that would need a full team. Are you interested in putting one together?

Re: “What to Do When ICE Raids Your Restaurant

Key, to date there has been no ice raid or other enforcement. The media and politicians are creating histeria around this issue. Sure find a few cases across the US and make it sound like every neighborhood is involved. The politicians should work on solving the problem instead of exploiting it or just bashing the current regime.

Re: “In Praise of Oakland’s Koreana Plaza

Thank you for highlighting one of the gems of Oakland (and well deserved). We shop there weekly. The owners have done a lot of work to revitalized that part of town.

Re: “The Anti-Sheep Mentality of Alameda's Mama Papa Lithuania

Ok, this is a good write up. I'll add here, the restaurant is cozy, the staff are kind, and the food is quite delicious. If you have an opportunity to go, then make sure you do.

Re: “The East Bay’s Lao Restaurant Community Embraces Its ‘Lao-ness’

Laotian food is amazing --herbal, fresh, pungent, spicy, complex. I've had it in Laos, Thailand, and here. Vientiane Kitchen is my favorite place in the Bay Area. The mok ba there is delicious as is their sai ooa

Re: “The Curious History of the Eritrean and Ethiopian Veggie Combo

Thank you for having a list of unique dishes available. As much as I love Ethiopian food I found that restaurants tend to offer the same dishes. It all tastes and looks the same. Some of it better than others of course. Cafe Colucci puts various hummus-like toppings on their salads, which taste fantastic. I think if Ethiopian restaurants would offer more unique, non-typical dishes I would eat there more often. Bay Area diners are adventurous! Take advantage of this!.

Re: “In Praise of Oakland’s Koreana Plaza

Man you all are giving up all the Towns stuff, and now you got a chump from Hayward giving it up too. Oh Lawd why do we get all these losers?? That is the coolest place for a quick lunch, fresh fish, and good soups..the ramen comment is cool but the parking lot is going to be far worse, and that part of Tele has those stupid bike lanes so it drags through there...us neighbors love Koreana Plaza!!
