When African Americans migrated from the South seeking relief from Jim Crow and better opportunities, they carried The Blues with them. A vibrant culture was established in West Oakland, California, that's steeped in the traditions of Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Louisiana. EVOLUTIONARY BLUESWest Oaklands Music Legacy, directed by filmmaker Cheryl Fabio features Isabel Wilkerson, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, and author - as well as iconic musicians of then and now. The film is showing Wednesday, September 27th at 7 pm, Grand Lake Theatre, 3200 Grand Avenue, Oakland. While the 7 pm screening has SOLD OUT, the theatre just added a second show at 10:00 pm also on 9/27, tickets $12 at the door.

Re: “Tibetan Nyingma Institute

Great place to experience meditation and to explore it further. Classes in psychology, Buddhist studies, Tibetan, Tibetan Yoga, and, of course, meditation. Something for everyone, no matter what kind of orientation to self and the world. Peaceful meditation garden with giant prayer wheel is open to public whenever they are open.
