Re: “Ye Olde Hut: Half Dive, Half Ski Lodge, All Good

I just ran across this post... and I thought I'd add a little history. My great-grandparents owned this bar way back when... and it doesn't sound like it has changed much since the good old days when it was called The Hut and my Grandpa "Foots" Remick manned the bar himself. Some of my favorite honorary aunts and uncles became part of my world because they were first patrons of this neighborhood bar. I'm grown up now and live out of state, so I have not visited in over 20 years, but I can't wait to take my own grown children there someday for a highball and some history!

Re: “Rum and Romance at East Bay Spice Company

East Bay Spice Co. is charting a new frontier in the Bay Area's culinary cocktail scene.

One must try: Ornament of the World. It's unlike anything else.

Re: “A Look at South Berkeley's Newest Beer Garden, Moxy

Children welcome, hey? Considering how badly behaved children are in America - why is it always about the children - maybe this is a place to avoid. Like Pyramid.

Re: “Peak Sausage and Beer

North San Pablo Ave could totally support one of these sausage and beer places. If one of these downtown locations fails, consider trying again in North Oakland!

Re: “Heart and Darkness

I love the Heart and Dagger for an afternoon lazy beer with dogs and friends! Sitting on the friendly patio watching the dogs play while sipping a beer and laughing with friends is all I need to make it a great day!

Re: “The Mountain Is Free

This sounds great. Were there many, um, non-Germans though?

Re: “The Mountain Is Free

although outside of EBX's coverage area, the SF Nature Friend's Tourist Club is awesome. You have to walk at least a quarter of a mile to get to it, but you'll feel especially accomplished if you opt for the 40 minute hike, which involves climbing the never-ending Dipsea Steps in Mill Valley and hiking along a cliffside path which made me feel like I was in Lord of the Rings.

Re: “Missouri Lounge's State of Disrepair

On the note of bathroom soliloquies, Lucky 13 in Alameda has some of the most inspiring and practical bathroom graffiti, and an icy piss trough for the dudes. I love that place.

Re: “The Lake Chalet and the Life Coach

Maybe give more press to new and/or locally owned places rather than couple year old joints owned by food conglomerates? You know, because multi-billion dollar food conglomerates need so much help...

Re: “The Unplaceable Goodness of Revival Bar + Kitchen

Rancho de Oro Tequila is actually owned by a Sonoma County family that has been farming agave for 3 generations. A small, boutique producer of premium tequila. If you have any questions please contact Steve at Les Caves Roties de Pente. Importer. Revival consistantly supports small locally owned farms, wineries, brewers and distillers........THANK YOU!

Re: “The Endlessly Hospitable Forbidden Island

Right on! I wish I lived in Alameda instead of Morgan Hill sometimes! They're always having too much fun up there. It's a hole-in-the-wall that you don't want to miss. And I do.
