Re: “Clarification for the Week of October 7

As a GF moderator, I did a few fact checks on the article. The neighbor referenced in the article who made the offensive post aimed at Esquivel was put “on moderation” (sic banned) after the post. GF moderators already had concerns with his/her prior posts. Our records do not show that Esquivel was ever “banned” or moderated. Members “on moderation” can still post to GF but we take on the role of reading each one for civility before releasing.

Re: “Corrections for the Week of June 5, 2013

You keep letting Fire Fighters slide by while focusing on cops. Fire fighters rescue kittens and risk their lives in illegal grow houses. But that should not exempt them from a hard look at what we pay them, any more than we should exempt non-sworn maintenance people, parks and rec, clerks, and especially managers in all departments.

That last correction needs a correction. Shotgun Players did stage a production of The Miser in 2004. Berkeley Rep also staged a production in 2006. The Express reviewed both of those productions.

Re: “Corrections for the Week of September 28

Now it's time for you people to make corrections of the corrections. How can you get more mistakes crammed into one story!? Your entire Aurora Theatre reference is shot full of errors. This wonderful arts gem in Berkeley deserves careful, intelligent attention.

Don't forget to mention all the leftwing lies you tell repeatedly in every issue.

Or, so Mayor Dellums and Council President Brunner would have you believe.

Sheryl, we typically run letters three to four weeks after the initial publication date in order to group them all in one issue. Look for letters pertaining to "Small Schools, Big Debate" to appear in an upcoming issue.

Re: “Corrections for the Week of March 18

Rachel Swan is a poor excuse for a journalist. She used outdated sources, asserted her opinion as fact and failed to conduct due diligence on rumor and hearsay. She clearly had an agenda for her article and failed to honestly present her position when she interviewed teachers and students. She took conversations out of context and left out anything that would have painted small schools in a positive light. If the East Bay Express would grow some spine, it would print the letters I referenced in my initial comment and you could read for yourself all of the problems people had with her Fox News-esque reporting.

Re: “Corrections for the Week of March 18

We were surprised to see the article, but not outraged. Even with the occasionally misspelled name, Rachel Swan has done a stunning job of pointing out problems in the situation that many of us have been concerned about for years, but not able to express as coherently.

Perhaps I misunderstand the meaning of "hit piece?" As in "she hit the bulleye several times?"

Re: “Corrections for the Week of March 18

Where are all the letters from outraged readers who responded to Rachel Swan's shameful hit piece on Berkeley High small schools? You have a responsibility to print them along with your tepid corrections list.

Re: “Correction For May 7

I'm trying to contact Winston Goertz-Giffen. On May 7 you posted a correction saying that he lives on the border of Emeryville, he technically lives in Oakland.

He did some work for me a couple years ago and I might like to hire him again. Can you contact him and ask him to call me?

Thanks very much.

Re: “Corrections for the week of April 4-10, 2007

Actually, Ken Looney breached a contract which had made Andrey Ayrapetov co-owner of the restaurant. This among many other breeched contracts between Ken and the people who he worked with. Unless you are going to do due diligence (which reporters should), remove this comment immediately else it will be considered fallacious libel. Our February 28 review of Looney's Smokehouse implied that Andrey Ayrapetov and Ken Looney were co-proprietors. In fact, Ayrapetov, who is no longer connected with the restaurant, was originally its general manager, and was marketing director when the review was published.
