Re: “Goapele Sings Neo-Soul with a Side of Activism

She is the real deal.

She also refused to cross a picket line at the Oakland Marriott.

Re: “The Fresh Punk of SWMRS

We live in sad times when "punk" bands sing lyrics like, "Miley [Cyrus], you're a punk rock queen" without a hint of irony.

Re: “The Acharis' Dark Inward Journey

No offense to the band, because I'm sure they are awesome, but I had to laugh at the author for this: "Either way, the sampler is a welcome break from playing pre-recorded drums off of their laptop, which was what they did at their early shows before they earned money for a sampler."

Talk about a distinction without a difference! What do you think the computer was doing in the first place? Functioning as a sampler... I mean, don't pretend to break down the way music is made when you clearly don't know! LOL ;-P

Re: “Treasure Island Music Festival Returns — But This Time to Oakland

F***k you Ernest, you know nothing about Oakland, the culture of the people, the diversity and the respect the community has for each other as well as thoses who come to enjoy all the city has to offer so screw you and stay away no one needs your negativity

Re: “Treasure Island Music Festival Returns — But This Time to Oakland

Great. Another venue for local residents to find victims to terrorize.

More deadbeats getting fame while their families left behind.

Just Listen and then support.

Re: “The Uptones: The East Bay's Seminal Ska Band

Wow blast from the past. We were fixtures at Uptones gigs in high school... and now we are all middle aged.

Looking forward to introducing my kiddo to their tunes (and the much tamer mosh pit) at Memorial park.

Re: “Where Craigslist Sucks, Will Fandalism Succeed?

I joined Fandalism and I am sorry I did, the old, the untalented and the fools belong to it. It gets you nothing but the sad visiting your songs and if you click on a video for only a second it counts as a view

Re: “Hope for the Blues Walk of Fame

Additional sidewalk walk of fame plaques are included in a streetscape improvement project from Peralta St to Wood St along the 7th St corridor. That project technically began yesterday, Aug 15.

Re: “A New Music Venue Is Coming to the California Hotel

Welcome to the Hotel California... Sorry, it just had to be said.

I love the idea!

Re: “A New Music Venue Is Coming to the California Hotel

My favorite place to
Go during the 50s and 60s! Sunday afternoons MAMBO sessions with the late Carlos Federico, a young Pete Escovedo! A fantastic place to be! Lots of famous musicians came through its portals! There was the Restuarant and Zanzibar also!

Re: “Oakland Jazz Venue the Sound Room Fundraises to Relocate

Karen and Robert are amazing hosts and I am grateful they are extending their reach to ensure intimate venues for great jazz artists!!

Re: “A New Music Venue Is Coming to the California Hotel

Your first sentence is inaccurate. "The historic California Hotel was home in the 1930s to a legendary lineup of blues and jazz musicians, with the likes of Billie Holiday, James Brown, Big Mama Thornton, and Ray Charles having all lodged and performed within its walls."

Of the four musicians you mentioned, only Billie Holiday performed there in the '30s. The others were too young, born variously in '26, '30, and '33.

Re: “An Old Blueprint Made New

Donald Bailey was my father. Growing up with music in our home was something I will always cherish and gave me a great appreciation for all types of music. I want to write a book about his life.

Re: “Oakland Jazz Venue the Sound Room Fundraises to Relocate

How this reporter, Sam Lefebvre, got the idea that Marina collaborated with Miles Davis would seem to indicate some really sloppy journalism. I played with Miles in '86 and I now play with Marina. I can tell you for sure that those two never met. Come on Sam, get your facts straight.~
