The title of this worthwhile public policy documentary refers to a street address in Manassas, Virginia, where a contractor and Mexican immigrant named Gaudencio Fernandez put up a "freedom wall" billboard to protest local politicians' efforts to pass an anti-illegal-immigrants law, circa 2007-08. Activist filmmakers Annabel Park and Eric Byler decided to document the cultural struggle in Virginia's Prince William County, which preceded the controversy over Arizona's 2010 anti-immigration bill by some three years. As is increasingly common with matters such as this, 9500 Liberty began as a YouTube viral video. But the spirit of the debate remains timely (81 min., 2009, not rated)
Director: Eric Byler and Annabel Park
Cast: Charlie T. Deane, Guadencio Fernandez, Greg Letiecq, Corey A. Stewart, Martin E. Nohe, Elenna Schlossberg, Chris Pannell and Alanna Almeda
