Now is certainly a pivotal time for the gay-rights movement, and the eighth annual Oakland International Black LGBT Film Festival aims to explore all the tension, drama, and humor therein with its slate of shorts and features. The festival takes place over three nights at Rialto Cinemas Elmwood (2966 College Ave., Berkeley); highlights include Children of God, a narrative feature about racial and religious conflict in the Bahamas, and After the Storm, a documentary set in post-Katrina New Orleans. The festival also features additional events, such as a DirectorÕs Workshop (Friday, Aug. 13) at the Oakland Pride Headquarters (495 Embarcadero West, Oakland). Movie tickets are $8-$10, while other events are free; check website for schedule. BlackLGBTFilmFest.com
