7:35 p.m. Mon.-Fri.: Best Place to Get Pet Stuff on Your Way Home from Work

Pet Food Express

Despite their cold exterior and cookie-cutter selections, there's a reason strip malls are so popular. Everything you need is located conveniently in one place, there's ample parking, shopping hours are generous, prices are reasonable, and, given the ubiquity of most Depots, Marts, or Warehouses, you always know what you're gonna get. But Pet Food Express -- which offers a full line of pet products including beds, scratching posts, kennels, and toys along with its "food" -- is not just a great place to shop because of its institutional convenience. Sure, that's probably how many customers are first drawn in. It's great, however, because in addition to being handy, it offers surprisingly good service. Once you're inside, you're hooked. Here, the employees actually seem to like their jobs -- they greet every customer, they're pet-friendly, they offer assistance with genuine interest, and they're unusually well-informed about their products. When you ask for help, you get it. With its wide selection and additional conveniences such as vaccine clinics and pet-washing stations, it's soon hard to justify going anywhere else.
