5:46 p.m. Mon.-Sun.: Best Place to Prepare Your Own Ethiopian Feast

Brundo Meats & Deli

Cooking Ethiopian cuisine at home is possible if you have a good cookbook and the right ingredients. For the ingredients, look no further than Brundo, your source for authentic Ethiopian staples and meats. Here you can get all the fixings for your own attempt to capture the flavor of Addis Ababa, from piles of fresh injera flat bread to dried berebere powder and boxes of Addis herbal tea. Brundo also sells the dried chickpeas and lentils that are the basis for many Ethiopian sauces and stews. Meat eaters will find a selection of beef cuts ready for preparing dishes like kitfo, which, if you're being truly authentic, should be eaten raw with plenty of berebere on the side. Though you might not be able to exactly re-create the tastes of Brundo's beloved neighbor and parent operation Cafe Colucci, you will find that some of its products go a long way on their own. Use injera as a spongy substitute for pitas or tortillas, or keep a small container of berebere around as a sweet yet intensely spicy alternative to chile powder.
