Romantic comedy
Admirable idea to remake La Ronde – Arthur Schnitzler’s 1897 play about a connected full circle of lovers, a metaphor for the spread of syphilis – in contemporary New York, but writer-director Alexis Lloyd is not the one to do it. Some of the dopiest dialogue you will hear this year, so bad the actors stumble over it and nobody orders a retake. That’s what we’re up against. Among the large cast of players set adrift are Ingeborga Dapkunaite, Jason Day, Vahina Giocante, Paz de la Huerta, and Condola Rashad, whose naturalistic performance is welcome. Otherwise, a date movie for narcoleptics. (88 min.)
