140th Annual Scottish Gathering and Games 

When: 2005-09-04
There will be Grades I-IV pipe bands, all of whom will assemble at the end of each day as the Massed Bands; this year's guest pipe band is Pipes & Drums of the King's Own Scottish Borderers. More than a hundred clans will set up tents at the Gathering of Scottish Clans and Families, where visitors can trace their family tree, get their clan's coat of arms, and catch up on family news. Entertainers scheduled include Alex Beaton, Molly's Revenge, Ed Miller and John Taylor, The Browne Sisters, and George Cavanaugh and the Wicked Tinkers, and there will be Scottish country dancing, sheepdog trials, birds of prey, Highland cattle, living history, Scottish fiddling and harping, a Children's Glen with competitions for wee lads and lassies, and more.Sat., Sept. 3, 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sun., Sept. 4, 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m., $4-$23, kids 7 and younger get in free, $8 parking fee, 800-713-3160, Alameda County Fairgrounds, 4501 Pleasanton Ave., Pleasanton, 925-426-7600.
