Kennedy Park

Kennedy Park is a nice cross between your neighborhood greenbelt and something with a little amusement-park oomph -- and it won't set you back 25 bucks for a kid's ticket like a visit to a major theme park would. You can enjoy standard public park features like a huge grassy expanse for sports, a sandpit with three different jungle gyms, and a phalanx of picnic tables that can be reserved ahead for picnics and parties, but the park also has a small but pleasant assortment of kiddie rides. Tickets for visiting the goats and burros at the Triple Pines Ranch petting zoo, a ride on the old-fashioned carousel, jumping in the bounce, or taking a lap around the park on the Crayola-colored miniature train all cost a buck and a quarter each. The rides, petting zoo, and a snack bar are open on weekends, during school vacations, and on most holidays from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call 510-881-6700 for picnic table reservations.
