.Piedmont’s Newest Claim to Fame

The Paris Twins

They are like twin towers on the basketball court. Courtney stands six-foot-four; Ashley comes in an inch shorter. Together they are the mighty Paris twins, the Piedmont High sensations who led the Highlanders to two straight state titles. This year, they killed Brentwood-Los Angeles by a score of 82-44 to capture the state crown. The twins’ incredible play has garnered them national media attention including a glowing profile in USA Today, which gushed, “Together they have transformed Piedmont High into a girls’ basketball powerhouse.” Athleticism runs in the family: Courtney and Ashley’s dad is former 49ers offensive lineman Bubba Paris. Unfortunately for Piedmont High, which never won a state title before the twins arrived, Courtney and Paris are graduating this year. Bay Area women’s basketball fans had hoped to see them resuscitate Cal’s team the way they did Piedmont High’s. But with Cal’s program in disarray — the school just canned its head coach — the girls instead opted for Oklahoma. Oh, well. It was fun while it lasted, ladies.
