.One-Night Stands for the week of December 20-26, 2006

In this week's rep picks: mammals and bishops.

Reviews by Michael Covino and Kelly Vance

Fri., Dec. 22

Life of Mammals — David Attenborough’s documentary examines mammals around the world (running time unknown). (Humanist Hall, 390 27th St., Oakland, 7:30)

Stranger Than Paradise — Writer-director Jim Jarmusch’s crazed, dazed comedy isn’t sidesplitting so much as steady, sweet, and strange as the three protagonists (John Lurie, Eszter Balint, Richard Edson) drift around the country from New York to Cleveland, then down to a wintry Florida. One of those rare films, like Wim Wenders’ road movies, where almost any shot would make a delightful still photograph (89 min., 1984). — M.C. (Berkeley Public Library, 2090 Kittredge St., 3:30)

Sat., Dec. 23

The Bishop’s Wife — Angel Cary Grant descends to Earth to do some fund-raising for Bishop David Niven and wife Loretta Young so they can erect a new church. Delightful Christmas comedy directed by Henry Koster (109 min., 1947). (PW, 6:00)

The Rocky Horror Picture Show — The original 1975 British rock music horror spoof, starring Tim Curry as the androgynous Dr. Frank N. Furter (95 min.). (PW, midnight)

Sun., Dec. 24

The Bishop’s Wife — See Sat. (PW, 5:00)
