.Nails with That?

Where waiters and diners tell tales.

My friend and I used to go for short runs after work. Afterwards, we’d head out for a quick bite to eat. One night we ducked into a hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant. We were the only ones dining, and our food came fast. The chicken-coconut soup, pad Thai, rice noodles stuffed with pork, and red-curry beef were all delicious and felt well earned after our exercise. We pondered how a restaurant with such good food had only us for its evening’s customers.

We had almost finished eating when we heard click … click … click. The sound was unmistakable, but still we couldn’t help turning to look at the table in the corner. Yes indeed, our waiter was clipping his fingernails! We threw down enough cash to cover our bill and left before he had a chance to start on his toes.
