.Gutsiest Amateur Athlete

Scott Cory

Scott has been overcoming major obstacles for most of his young life. When he isn’t clambering up the walls at Touchstone gym in Concord, he’s scaling the Andes, or stretching his legs over the mountains of Thailand — and he’s been doing it since he was seven. The now- fifteen-year-old is one of the top-rated climbers in the world, and this spring he’ll team up with Hans Florine, the crowned king of the sport, to attempt a single-day assault of Yosemite’s Half Dome and the Nose of El Capitan, a challenge worthy of only the best of the best. Scott has that just-won’t-quit attitude, and his innate ability to find his way up just about any surface, no matter how flat or barren, makes him the gutsiest athlete in the East Bay.
