.Geezerest Softball League

Super Seniors Softball

Here is a slow-pitch softball league for men and women who will be at least fifty during the year they join. The rules are modified to reduce the risk of injury. Sliding is prohibited, runners may “run through” second and third bases without being subject to being tagged out, and there is liberal use of courtesy runners. Runners are enjoined to avoid colliding with fielders, and fielders are required to stay clear of the bases and base paths when not making a play. Outs at home are force plays only. These common-sense rules do not detract from the joy of playing: The action is still there; this is still ball. Many of the players are very fit and powerful, hitting the ball hard and throwing with laser arms. Others are less adept. The result is a good mix of expert play, acceptance, and sportsmanship. And still the players strive and the competitive flame flares. The total fee is about $30 a year, including membership of the Pleasant Hill Senior Center. They play the Summer Game year-round on weekday mornings. A new season starts in April.
