.Freshest Sushi

Yume Restaurant

It is exceptionally easy to walk right by this exceptionally good sushi
joint in the middle of Alameda’s Park Street. There is a tiny little
shingle above a nondescript door announcing its presence. From there,
it’s up the stairs to a tiny waiting area where you hope there is
enough room for you to get to the delicacies inside. The fish is
astoundingly fresh and the saba just melts on your tongue. The
chef is friendly, talkative, and talented, and the view out the window
somehow makes Alameda look more Eastern than it is. Although various
rating web sites that shall remain unnamed whine about unfriendly
service, the critical reviewers probably (a) tried to cram too many
people into a place that seats only sixteen or (b) behaved in a boorish
and entitled manner and deserved all they got. If you don’t believe us,
do your own research. But remember: If you don’t show up early, your
wait will be long. A final word of advice: Ask the chef what’s good and
order that.
