Trading Away All Our F*@!ing Pitchers: Billy Beane

Sure, the Oakland A’s haven’t made it to the Series in the past few years, but those pre-playoff surges became a tradition thanks to our beloved pitchers Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder, and Barry Zito. Now, thanks to Billy Beane’s unconventional style, all we have left is Zito. Sure, his curveball is one of the best ever to cross a strike zone, but without anyone to cover the other four days in the rotation, where will the A’s find their defense? Hopefully behind a platoon of youngsters named Haren, Etherton, Saarloos, Meyer and, of course, the grizzled veteran Harden. If it were anyone other than Beane making these decisions, we’d surely have given up all hope for the 2005 season by now. But Billy has that magical vision, and we trust that he knows what he’s doing. It takes balls to go against conventional wisdom, and the A’s certainly have those in spades. So, while we don’t necessarily agree with all his choices, we can certainly get behind him and support them when the first pitch is thrown. Even if that pitch is wild.
