Montclair Veterinary Hospital

When it comes to old-fashioned customer service, do we miss anything more than doctors who make house calls? Well, if you have four legs or feathers, you’re in luck. Montclair Veterinary Hospital, which already had a sterling reputation for nearly fifty years of service for domestic, rescued, and wild animals, is now sending vets out to do home visits for exams, annual vaccinations, and minor medical procedures. They were already making house calls for special cases, but now if you can’t get to them — or have a lot of animals for them to look at because you just can’t say no to strays — this will be a welcome step back. In addition to gentle, sensitive attention to animals and a wide range of lab and surgical services, the veterinarians also offer traditional medicine — traditional Chinese medicine, that is, acupuncture and herbs, for cases that warrant them. For animals that don’t live in houses, Montclair Vet is the first stop for injured and orphaned wildlife headed to the Yggdrasil Urban Wildlife Rescue Center. They sponsor a “Pet Mayor” contest, present educational programs, and their Pet and Wildlife Fund makes free and discounted services available to schools, community groups, and local animal control units. Despite modern touches like a web site where you can keep track of your pet’s health, we like Montclair Vet for the care — for animals and community — we associate with a slower time.
