.Best Takeout

Gregoire

Gregoire combines two unlikely food phenomena — takeout and gourmet. Serving lunch and dinner, most of their lunch entrées take the form of a gourmet sandwich, which comes with a little side salad. The restaurants’ menus change monthly. For example, in June they’re serving shirred organic eggs with Parmesan cheese and mushroom ragout in pantofolina for $6.75, or Mexican Bay Scallop ceviche with bean sprouts salad and shoestring potato in pantofolina for $7.50. They also offers a standard mixed green salad, and one to two soups of the day. Their potato side dishes are filling and fun, from gratin and French fries to crispy potato puffs (think deep fried mashed potato). Their dinner prices run from $12 to $16 per entrée and tend to rival those of comparable sit-down joints in the Gourmet Ghetto. But, oh, the food. You can tote your meal back home or take a seat at the counter in the tiny takeout joint and watch the staff make your food in the open kitchen and grill.
