Sea Breeze Market & Deli

This is the place to eat lunch when you’re stuck at work on a beautiful day and need a mini-vacation. The Sea Breeze’s shack-like appearance (it’s built from trailers and shipping containers) and weird location — at the intersection of the Bay Trail and the I-80 frontage road — has the effect of recreating the feel of being a kid on a family road trips, stopping for food and souvenirs at random, mysterious spots. And the crab salad sandwich is perfect. Dripping with mayo, chunky with crustacean, it’s available on your choice of ten breads with your choice of eight cheeses to accompany. We recommend a hearty one like sourdough roll, Dutch crunch, or onion roll — focaccia’s too moist, rye’s too flimsy — and either cheddar to balance out the salad’s sweetness, or no cheese at all. The sandwich comes with lettuce, tomato, and pickles; add one of the many fancy sodas in the deli cases and you’ve been set back $11 and change — not too bad for a mini-vacation. And if someone in your party is a crab-hating clown, the Sea Breeze offers other delish seafood options, including fried calamari and “oyster burgers,” plus other real burgers, gardenburgers, smoothies, coffee drinks, and a deli full of other options.
