Duck's Nest

Nestled behind a tall wooden fence in an industrial stretch of Berkeley sits an oasis for children ages two to five. Started nineteen years ago, Duck’s Nest is what every parent dreams of in a preschool and then some. An incredible facility with tall trees, a fabulous playground, a large garden, and paved area for wheel toys, the preschool offers a stunning array of activities for its young charges. Yoga, music classes, French and Spanish, gardening, elaborate art projects, and monthly field trips keep the students here excited and busy. Unlike all the many preschool programs plagued with high staff turnover, many of the teachers here have been with the school for years. It’s not hard to see why they want to stay. This is a lively, engaging, and rich learning atmosphere. The curriculum is built around monthly themes such as the rainforest, space, dinosaurs, or sea life, and students transform their classrooms with murals, science projects, and puppet shows to reflect the different areas of study. With three different campuses, Duck’s Nest has expanded to accommodate its growing student roster and now offers a kindergarten program too, as many parents simply can’t bear to pull their children away once preschool is over. Because of its extraordinary program, all three campuses have a wait list. Don’t be intimidated: Spots do open up. As one Duck’s Nest parent recently noted, the only downside to this preschool is that nearly all other educational experiences are downhill from here.
