The Lieutenant Kije Project

Not much competition in this category. After all, who has time to sit around scouring local news and composing Japanese triplet poetry about the foibles of local movers and shakers? Lieutenant Kije, evidently. Hiding behind an anonymous Web address, the person (or persons) behind this Oakland satire site has (have?) managed to remain anonymous, although more than a few lampooned City Hall insiders would likely okay a sweet billboard deal in order to quench that curiosity. Not everything on the site is clever, mind you, but you gotta admire the effort. Any Oaklanders who stay on top of their local politicos should find a few laughs among the haiku (a haiku requires three lines of five, seven, and five syllables). We’ll conclude with these three gems for your consideration:

Dark night in Oakland
Jacques on the payroll still … why?
The Moon will not say.

Cunning little minx
Took my gifts, spurned my love
Wilda, please don’t go.
